About This Position

Department: Spiritual Development

Reports To: Chaplain

Job Summary: The Assistant Chaplain supports the spiritual growth and well-being of individuals residing in the Bushman Building and Group Homes. Collaborating closely with the Chaplain, this role involves personal interactions, teaching ministries, and facilitating worship experiences both on-site and through local church partnerships.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or a degree in theology is a plus.
  • Experience: At least one year of experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
  • Chaplain or experience in pastoral care, counseling, or related ministry work preferred.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in using computers and phones.
  • Ability to maneuver wheelchairs and utilize adaptive equipment.
  • Capability to lead worship groups and provide individual pastoral care.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to read, write, and speak English effectively.

Licenses: Valid driver's license required.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • ability to lift up to 35 lbs independently, ability to assist in a 2 person lift for residents, while using a Hoyer lift.
  • Submit to a criminal background check and be cleared by the Department of Human Services prior to hire.
  • Agree to drug testing prior to employment, as well as random and for-cause drug testing during employment.
  • Consent to checks against the Central Registry of Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities and Child Abuse Record Information.
  • Attend required orientation and in-service training sessions.
  • Complete cooperation with the licensee (Hope Christian Services) and department staff in any inspection, inquiry or investigation.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to travel to various locations, including group homes and hospitals, to visit residents.
  • Capability to lead public worship and Bible study sessions.
  • Must function independently and work flexible hours.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Resident Engagement: Encourage and assist residents in participating in activities and ministries that promote spiritual growth.
  • Church Integration: Aid residents in becoming involved in local church ministries where their gifts can be utilized, and their religious needs met.
  • Bible Studies: Conduct weekly Bible study sessions tailored to the needs and preferences of the residents.
  • Mission Support: Collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer and Chaplain to ensure that the organization's Christian purpose is reflected in the services provided.
  • Hospital Visits: Visit residents who are hospitalized to provide spiritual support and comfort.
  • Family Support: Offer support to families of residents as needed, addressing their spiritual and emotional needs.
  • Spiritual Advocacy: Serve as an advocate for residents' spiritual needs, respecting and aligning with their religious backgrounds.
  • Worship Services: Lead Sunday worship services in the absence of the Chaplain.
  • Compliance: Cooperate with Hope Christian Services and department staff during inspections, inquiries, or investigations.
