About This Position

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Imaging Director and in coordination with the medical direction of the Medical Director of Imaging, has these major responsibilities: independently performs radiographic examinations; selects, orients, supervises, manages and evaluates all radiology staff members; develops, revises, and implements techniques and methods for quality control of patient care and safe and effective administration of physician prescribed diagnostic tests; develops operational and capital budgets and maintains financial operations; develops policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain standards of care and regulatory requirements; serves as a liaison between radiology staff and other medical personnel; provides leadership in problem-solving and team building; assists in creating short-term and long-range goals and objectives; submits recommendations for selection of new equipment; ensures proper maintenance of equipment; and maintains a strong clinical affiliation with a patient-centered approach to operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides positive leadership by an environment of teamwork, open communication and customer service.
  • Responsible for human resources processes including interviewing and orientating staff, ongoing performance management and timekeeping/scheduling and required documentation.
  • Assists with financial management by developing and maintaining budget, strives to keep operations within benchmarks and communicates variances.
  • Ensures the compliance of policies and work instructions with regulatory standards and to improve the overall operation of the facility.
  • Collects relevant information regarding patient identification, procedure, appropriateness for indicated signs and symptoms, pregnancy status, patient preparation, contraindications, safety screenings, and patient assessment.
  • Analyzes information to safely and accurately provide care according to established policies, protocols and guidelines for patient safety.
  • Provides patient education by explaining procedures and giving instructions at a level the patient can understand.
  • Addresses patient’s questions and concerns.
  • Verifies patient informed consent (procedure, contrast and radiopharmaceutical) when indicated.
  • Refers questions about outcomes, diagnosis, treatment or prognosis to patient’s physician.
  • Provides appropriate information to individuals involved in the patient’s care.
  • Performs exam accurately by following the policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates the patient study in a timely, accurate and comprehensive manner to determine if the intended outcome was achieved.
  • Documents all required components of patient care.
  • Accurately performs quality control procedures to maintain regulatory standards and accrediting requirements.
  • Adheres to equipment safety standards and identifies and appropriately reports variances and concerns.
  • Provides mentorship in a positive environment by sharing knowledge and expertise with fellow technologists, students and other pertinent individuals/facilities

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate of a Radiological Technologist Program must have minimum of three years experience ability to manage associates
  • Knowledge of general radiology and practice
  • Registered ARRT Current Kansas state radiology licensure and may require additional state licensure based on population served
  • BLS certification or must complete BLS certification with in the first two weeks of employment additional certification may be required for certain patient care settings or populations.
  • Specific information and the timeframe in which such certification must be attained will be provided by the department director/manager/supervisor at time of hire/transfer into department.

Infection Control: Initial and Ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Trainings could include but are not limited to, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and bio hazardous materials as it applies to your daily work environment.

Patient Interaction: Frequent

HIPAA: This position will have access to the following Protected Health Information in order to carry out the duties related to their position at Hays Medical Center based on the following criteria:
Primary – required (routine) to do the job;
Secondary – required for the job, but mostly be exception; and
None – no approved access
