Job SummaryThe Acute Pain Advanced Practice Provider (APP) functions within the acute care hospital setting works in collaboration with, and is an integral member of, a multidisciplinary health care team.

The APP functions primarily in the inpatient setting managing the care of patients, obtaining patient histories (including anesthesia and surgical history) on inpatients requiring surgical intervention, and performs physical exams pertinent to patients’ history and anticipated anesthesia needs.

Other duties include: obtains physician endorsement for diagnostic work-ups based on anesthesia protocols, orders and evaluates appropriate diagnostic studies based on patient history and protocols, generates medical diagnoses based on evaluation of assessment data, identify and refer patients who require medical intervention to attending anesthesiologist, obtain appropriate medical consults, and discuss options and document assessment data.

The APP has a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and education and has a responsibility for ensuring an environment of safe quality care. The APP demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical and technical competency, sound clinical judgment, professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and takes responsibility for ongoing professional development and competency validation.

Anesthesiology Acute Pain APPs are offered $4,000 and 80 hours of leave for continuing education per year.
