About This Position
The overall responsibilities of a Road Trailer Technician include:
- Operate equipment and tools as needed to perform work.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on a variety of trailer manufacturers.
- Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
- Implement cost-saving and tracking maintenance program through work orders in Vista.
- Document and keep clear and accurate details on work orders.
- Perform preventative maintenance on empty trailers to keep the yard crew/drivers from delays.
- Check and bring loaded trailer tires to appropriate air pressure before leaving the yard.
- Identify and replace damaged trailer tires before leaving the yard or loaded.
- Perform repairs to trailers on suspension, lighting, frame, brakes, and air systems to meet DOT/FMCSA requirements.
- Perform trailer annual DOT/FMCSA inspections prior to expiration date to stay compliant.
- Adhere to environmental and stormwater pollution prevention policies.
- Housekeeping as necessary to maintain work area, tools and equipment in a clean and orderly manner.
- Must adhere to all Metromont and OSHA safety rules and regulations.

Characteristics
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Ability to trouble shoot trailer electrical, air systems, suspension, and frame.
- Must be safety-conscious
- Able to work independently following a provided priority list
- Ability to use hand tools for repair/maintenance items
- Ability to learn to drive switcher, tractors, buggies or other vehicles in the yard safely
- Able to read tape measure to 1/16
- Able to read wiring and pneumatic schematics
- Ability to read work instructions and perform basic math to estimate materials
- Able to adapt to changes in work schedules, tasks, or processes
- Values and demonstrates safe working behaviors
Education and Technology
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
- 1-2 years hands-on maintenance experience
