About This Position

We are searching for a Certified Peer Support Worker to join our newest team at the Women's Housing Navigation shelter in Albuquerque, New Mexico!

OBJECTIVE AND POSITION SUMMARY
The Certified Peer Support Worker (CPSW) provides leadership and support to the Housing Support Specialist team at Women’s Housing Navigation shelter. This role ensures the consistent delivery of high-quality, client-centered housing support services, including Rapid Rehousing and Transitional Housing programs. The CPSW will serve as a lead and coordinates day-to-day operations, assists with complex cases, fosters team development, and oversees some administrative functions such as reporting, compliance tracking, proper documentation, and communication with leadership.

This position promotes trauma-informed practices, upholds shelter standards, and supports clients' transition to permanent housing through direct service and team leadership. They are integral to ensuring the shelter environment remains safe, trauma-informed, and client-centered. Using their personal experience to offer empathy, understanding, and guidance to clients, the CPSW is a role model and mentor, empowering clients to advocate for their needs and rights within the behavorial health system and achieve their recovery goals. They have a variety of responsibilities, including, but not limited to:

  • Linking clients to community resources, support groups, and other services that can support their recovery
  • Educating and training clients on various topics related to mental health, substance use, and recovery
  • Conducting intake assessments and assisting clients in developing individualized housing plans
  • Fostering relationships with housing partners, landlords, and community resources
  • Collaborating with the treatment team to ensure holistic care for clients
  • Assisting staff with interventions, creative housing solutions, referrals, client emergencies and crisis stabilization
  • Monitoring team caseloads, ensuring appropriate distribution and timely service delivery
  • Ensuring staff adherence to eligibility and documentation requirements
  • Maintaining team tracking tools, performance dashboards, and reporting logs
  • Preparing summaries, data reports, and success stories for leadership and funding partners
  • Assisting Program Supervisor with operational needs as well as onboarding, training, and coaching new staff members
  • Performing direct service work when needed to cover shifts or urgent client needs

SPECIALIZATIONS

  • Proficiency in peer support practices, case management, and housing program operations
  • Skilled in supporting individuals and families impacted by trauma, mental health issues, or homelessness
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and team-building skills
  • Expertise in maintaining program compliance and delivering services within Rapid Rehousing and Transitional Housing guidelines
  • Ability to navigate local housing markets, rental programs, and landlord relations
  • Familiarity with shelter-based operations, crisis response, and safety protocols
  • Skilled in data tracking, reporting, and quality assurance activities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
Education /Background:

  • Must be CPSW through a recognized program, such as the New Mexico Certified Peer Support Worker training program
    • Lived Experience: CPSW will have a personal history of overcoming mental health or substance use challenges
  • Previous experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or in a supportive housing setting is highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care principles and a commitment to applying them in practice
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and demonstrate cultural competency
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office and client management software
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally as needed
