Position Summary |
The Donor Phlebotomist is responsible for performing phlebotomies on volunteer whole blood and apheresis donors, autologous and therapeutic donors according to established regulatory requirements. Coordinates and implements procedures involved in evaluation, collection, processing of products and care of donors/patients. Assists in the development and maintenance of recurring blood drive from the community.

Primary Position Responsibilities |
- Follows the laboratory’s procedures for blood donor collection in accordance with applicable regulatory agencies.
- Properly identifies the donor according to hospital and laboratory policy.
- Performs and accurately records donor physical information. Defers donors that do not meet criteria, with proper documentation in the computer system.
- Performs the venipuncture using aseptic techniques, according to the donor room's established procedure.
- Recognizes donor reactions, provides treatment, calls for additional help if needed, and completes the donor reaction worksheet after the donor recovers.
- Cares for the donor post-donation by providing refreshments, post-donation care information, and ensures that the donor is able to leave without any reactions to the procedure.
- Makes FFP, RBC, and Plasma when necessary and assures products are stored at the proper temperature.

High school Diploma, preferably in college prep curriculum

Certificate in Phlebotomy

Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
Required:
Basic Microsoft Office, and LIS computer skills. Basic laboratory skills. Good customer service and telephone etiquette
