About This Position
The YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and compassionate Summer Camp Program Director to lead Camp Funkist, our dynamic summer day camp program. This role is ideal for a strong leader who loves working with children, supporting staff, and creating a fun, safe, and inclusive environment. The Camp Director plays a vital role in ensuring high-quality programming while maintaining full compliance with the New York State Department of Health (DOH) regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Camp Operations & Leadership
- Oversee the daily operations of Camp Funkist to ensure a safe, engaging, and well-run program.
- Implement camp schedules, activities, and?special events.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and energetic camp culture.
Staff Supervision
- Supervise and evaluate camp staff.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and ongoing support to counselors and activity staff.
- Ensure proper staff-to-camper ratios are?maintained?at all times.
Health, Safety & DOH Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with all New York State Department of Health (DOH) regulations for day camps.
- Maintain required records such as attendance, incident reports, health logs, and emergency procedures.
- Conduct daily health and safety checks of staff, campers, and facilities.
- Serve as the primary point of contact during DOH inspections.
Camper & Family Support
- Promote a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for all campers.
- Communicate with families regarding questions, concerns, or incidents.
- Support campers’ social-emotional development and positive behavior.
Administrative & Program Support
- Keep accurate records of attendance, incidents, and staff documentation.
- Communicate regularly with the Assistant Director of Youth Programming.
- Support special events, marketing efforts, and reporting as needed.

Requirements:Qualifications:
- Experience working with children in a camp, school, or youth program setting
- Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Knowledge of (or ability to learn) NYS DOH day camp regulations
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Passion for youth development and the mission of the YWCA
Compensation:
- This is a seasonal stipend-based position paid through payroll.
- The total summer stipend for this role is $8,000.16, covering the full Camp Funkist season (June 25–August 21, 2026), including required training days and scheduled camp days.
- Stipends are distributed semi-monthly in accordance with the YWCA payroll schedule and are prorated across all paid days in the season.
- This stipend reflects compensation for the full seasonal assignment and is not calculated on an hourly basis.
