Camp Director at YWCA WHITE PLAINS AND CENTRAL WESTCHESTER – White Plains, New York

The YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and compassionate Summer Camp Program Director to lead Camp Funkist, our dynamic summer day camp program. This role is ideal for a strong leader who loves working with children, supporting staff, and creating a fun, safe, and inclusive environment. The Camp Director plays a vital role in ensuring high-quality programming while maintaining full compliance with the New York State Department of Health (DOH) regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Camp Operations & Leadership

• Oversee the daily operations of Camp Funkist to ensure a safe, engaging, and well-run program.
• Implement camp schedules, activities, and?special events.
• Create a positive, inclusive, and energetic camp culture.

Staff Supervision

• Supervise and evaluate camp staff.
• Provide leadership, coaching, and ongoing support to counselors and activity staff.
• Ensure proper staff-to-camper ratios are?maintained?at all times.

Health, Safety & DOH Compliance

• Ensure full compliance with all New York State Department of Health (DOH) regulations for day camps.
• Maintain required records such as attendance, incident reports, health logs, and emergency procedures.
• Conduct daily health and safety checks of staff, campers, and facilities.
• Serve as the primary point of contact during DOH inspections.

Camper & Family Support

• Promote a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for all campers.
• Communicate with families regarding questions, concerns, or incidents.
• Support campers’ social-emotional development and positive behavior.

Administrative & Program Support

• Keep accurate records of attendance, incidents, and staff documentation.
• Communicate regularly with the Assistant Director of Youth Programming.
• Support special events, marketing efforts, and reporting as needed.

Qualifications:

• Experience working with children in a camp, school, or youth program setting
• Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
• Knowledge of (or ability to learn) NYS DOH day camp regulations
• Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
• Passion for youth development and the mission of the YWCA

Compensation:

• This is a seasonal stipend-based position paid through payroll.
• The total summer stipend for this role is $8,000.16, covering the full Camp Funkist season (June 25–August 21, 2026), including required training days and scheduled camp days.
• Stipends are distributed semi-monthly in accordance with the YWCA payroll schedule and are prorated across all paid days in the season.
• This stipend reflects compensation for the full seasonal assignment and is not calculated on an hourly basis.
