Responsibilities
Operates, maintains, and repairs physical plant systems, buildings, and equipment to ensure safe, efficient operation in support of patient care and facility services.
Repairs and maintains equipment across all building areas to ensure optimal functionality and safety.
Maintains building systems, structures, and fixtures in a clean, usable, and visually appealing condition that enhances comfort for patients, staff, and visitors.
Demonstrates working knowledge of physical plant systems to support effective troubleshooting and repair.
Operates and maintains fire safety and life safety systems to ensure full compliance with safety regulations and organizational standards.
Conducts routine testing of fire alarms, sprinkler systems, and other safety devices; participates in and leads fire drills.
Prioritizes and completes maintenance requests and work orders in a timely manner to meet customer and operational needs.
Prepares and processes appropriate documentation for all maintenance and repair work, including work orders, records, and service logs.
Plans, purchases, and tracks materials required for completing assigned tasks; issues purchase order numbers and ensures proper documentation (e.g., packing slips, receipts).
Maintains a clean and organized workspace within engineering areas and ensures proper storage of tools and equipment.
Moves furniture and equipment as needed to support facility needs.
Establishes clear, courteous, and timely communication with customers, co-workers, and supervisors to support collaboration and service excellence.
Reports any unsafe conditions promptly to supervisors and contributes to maintaining a safe work environment.
Participates in educational programs, in-service training, and ongoing development to stay current with best practices and code compliance.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school graduate or equivalent
Experience:
- Minimum four years work experience at journeyman level with comparable equipment and systems or completion of apprenticeship program.
- Hospital engineering experience preferred.
