About This Position

At Merrimack Health, we are committed to pay transparency and equity. The base salary range is $44.70 (Min) — $67.05 hourly (Max), excluding fringe benefits and potential bonuses.

Your final base salary will be determined based on your education, experience, licensure, and internal equity considerations. Offers are typically made below the top of the range to support future salary growth.

As the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will perform ultrasound procedures for use in the evaluation and treatment of patients. Position performs both adult and pediatric imaging in-house in an acute care setting. Work is performed independently and is reviewed by the physician through adherence to established procedures and protocols and by observation and discussion of results achieved.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures, demonstrating knowledge of cross­-sectional anatomy. Selects the correct transducer frequency and TGC for optimum image quality. Performs all procedures following established protocols.
  • Demonstrates, identifies, and evaluates sonographic characteristics of anatomy and pathology, taking appropriate additional images to further characterize findings.
  • Receives consultation requests, checks for instruction from the requesting physician, consults with the radiologist as necessary.
  • Obtains a history including symptoms, previous diagnosis, surgery and/or treatment, which may be significant in tailoring the patient exam.
  • Greets patients by introducing themselves and positively establishing the patient's identity utilizing the 2 LGH identifiers, name and date of birth.
  • Explains the exam to the patient and others involved in the patient's care. Addresses concerns in a manner appropriate to age and comprehension level. Utilizes interpreter services when necessary.
  • Assists in the movement of the patient to and from the wheelchair and carrier.
  • Maintains the comfort and safety of the patient in a manner appropriate for the specific age group.
  • Completes preliminary report, with accuracy, on all patients, indicating normal and abnormal findings.
  • Telephones and/or faxes results when applicable. Documents critical findings and read-back information.
  • Assists with invasive procedures, practicing aseptic technique.
  • Evaluates images for technical and diagnostic quality, patient identification and scanning plane. Recognizes, corrects and/or compensates for artifacts without impairing diagnostic image quality.

Qualified candidates must possess certification:

  • RDMS is required.
  • 1–2 years hospital experience: Breast, obs., general, small parts and vascular experience are preferred
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
