Job Summary
Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in North Seattle, is currently recruiting for a Maintenance Staff. This position is part of a facilities team that reports to the Facilities Director and receives daily assignments from the Foreman. The Maintenance Dept. is primarily responsible for the maintenance, repair and upkeep of School and residence buildings, landscaped areas, athletic fields, playgrounds, walkways and parking lots for the Upper School, Middle School and Kenmore Boat house. Note: Where items are addressed in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the CBA will prevail.
Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)
- Follow the Accident Prevention Program and employee policy manual.
- Make repairs and assemble furniture, cabinets and other equipment.
- Make minor repairs to locks, and other equipment throughout our buildings
- Clean and change HVAC filters and return grills.
- Perform minor electrical & plumbing work, replace ballasts, switches, and light bulbs.
- Scrape, sand, and prepare surfaces and apply paint.
- Clean roofs and gutters on buildings.
- Operate snow removal equipment such as shovels, tractors, gators with a snowplow.
- Use hand and power tools necessary to perform the duties assigned.
- Mow, fertilize and aerate lawns, weed flower beds trim shrubs and trees.
- Line fields for sporting events.
- Sweep and clean campus parking lots, steps and walkways.
- Perform set-up and take down for special events.
- Observe safety procedures when operating power equipment around the school.
- Fuel and check vehicles and buses.
- Manage deliveries, set-ups & removal of set-ups for events and activities
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Experience in the care of lawns, landscaped areas and play fields is preferred.
- Experience in the operation of irrigation systems and drainage systems.
- Three years of semi-skilled building maintenance work preferred.
General Knowledge:
- Work with safety equipment (shoes, eye/ear/breathing safeguards – always).
- Plumbing, electrical, HVAC or minor construction.
- Operate, basic tools, materials and terminology used in one or more trades preferred.
- Understand Material Safety Data Sheet instructions.
- Read and write at the level required to perform tasks.
- Work independently and effectively as a member of a team.
- Take initiative and use good judgment.
- Accept direction and supervision.
- Demonstrate cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.
- Candidates must satisfactorily complete three criminal history background checks.
- Candidates must provide proof of vaccination and booster to human resources. Candidates requesting a medical and/or religious exemption should reach out to Human Resources.
Physical and Environmental Requirements and Factors:
- Lift and move heavy objects with and without assistance (objects will sometimes be elevated from floor level to above the shoulders). Push, pull, life and/or carry up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Manipulate hand and electric tools/wires/cables/and all types of structural tools and equipment.
- Operate power movers, weed-eaters, and chain saw.
- Work in inclement weather.
- Kneel, climb, and crawl in tight spaces.
- Service landscaping equipment.
- Climb ladders and stairs on a frequent basis.
- Perform installation and repair functions for up to eight (8) hours per day.
- Bend, crouch, and maneuver body in tight, cramped quarters.
- Twist body at 45-degree angles.
- Move quickly from the Upper School campus to the Middle School campus and back to perform maintenance and grounds keeping tasks.
- Exposure to sharp blades from hand power tools, and chemical fumes from glues, solvents, cleaners, and adhesives.
Salary and Benefits
