POSITION: Group Leader
DEPARTMENT: Youth Services
LOCATION: COMPASS PS 157
REPORTS TO: Program Director and/or Assistant Program Director
SALARY: $20 per hour (based on experience and credentials)
DATES: September 15, 2025 – June 30, 2026
SCHEDULE: Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM
JOB SUMMARYAs part of the Youth Services Department’s vision, all staff are responsible for promoting growth, leadership, and a positive self-image in youth across all Grand Street Settlement sites.
Group leaders will foster a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment. Responsibilities include facilitating recreational activities, team-building exercises, theme-based lessons, and trips as part of the after-school program.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTSHigh School diploma required; college degree preferred
Youth development experience required
Experience teaching and designing curriculum
Experience working with diverse youth populations
Strong administrative skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure
Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with youth (volunteer experience accepted)
Minimum of three (3) years of experience coaching, instructing, or facilitating curriculum-based lessons (preferred with youth)
Personable, energetic, and enthusiastic demeanor
Clearances & Certifications:
Must successfully complete:
NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening
New York State Clearance Review Background Check
Three (3) reference checks
Physical with updated TB test (fees may apply)
$25 fee required for NY State Clearance Review (if hired)
CPR/AED certification (preferred)
First Aid/RTE certification (preferred)
Additional Requirements:
Strong communication skills with students while maintaining professionalism
Ability to motivate youth and model responsibility, timeliness, organization, attendance, and professionalism
Complete all required after-school trainings in accordance with school-age child care regulations
Supervise and actively engage with youth in group settings
Address behavioral concerns through problem-solving and intervention
Maintain appropriate staff-to-student ratios during all activities and trips
Design and implement project-based curriculum
Lead activities aligned with after-school themes
Collaborate effectively with team members
Follow daily schedules, including in-house and trip procedures
Promote a positive and inclusive group environment
Supervise children and actively participate in activities and trips
Maintain a safe environment at all times
Ensure first aid and safety kits are stocked
Maintain up-to-date medical and emergency contact information for each participant
Document all incidents and injuries
Complete attendance and required reports
Follow all safety plans, procedures, and regulations
Communicate regularly and professionally with parents/guardians
Complete all required paperwork in a timely manner
Maintain a positive and prepared-to-work attitude
Supervise and evaluate youth staff
Perform additional duties as assigned
