GI Alliance is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse.
Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Summary of Position:
Provide exceptional care to patients and their family and assist Physician.
  • Supervises patients in recovery room
  • Assist GI physician, anesthesia provider as needed,
  • Assist other nurses and personnel in the efficient performance of the procedure room.
  • Performs ambulatory care duties requiring interactions with patient, insurance companies, vendors/representatives, physicians and family member including infusions, injections and manometry procedures.
  • Select supplies and equipment based on physician's preference cards and identified patient needs (i.e., age and size).
  • Collaborate with other health care team members regarding special equipment and/or supply needs.
  • Maintain a safe physical environment for the patient; maintain patient safety by acting as patient advocate.
  • Plan for care needs based on age and size of the patient, of all age/developmental stage patient populations.
  • Completes all required pre and post operative documentation and assures completion of such.
  • Ensures, assists with, and understands importance of patient safety regarding positioning during procedure.
  • Assists with preparation of patient for procedure (e.g., monitoring devices etc.)
  • Assists with anesthesia while continuing to practice within their scope of practice.

  • Administers medications and solutions as prescribed and clearly communicates administration during the operative procedure

  • Receives, isolates, and correctly prepares specimens, and follows infection control policy for transport of all specimens
  • Transport patients to/from the operating suite and is responsible for re- verification of the following: will take any corrective action prior to transporting patient:
    • Patient identity
    • Planned operative procedure and site I site
    • Allergies to drugs, soaps, tape, or food
    • Signed consent form
    • Completed diagnostic studies I lab work
    • Able to identify sensory deficits
  • Perform, Document, and Communicate Pre-operative Assessments of the following:
    • Notes condition of skin
    • Determines mobility of body parts
    • Evaluates vital signs- cardiovascular I respiratory status
    • Notes abnormalities, injuries, and previous surgeries
    • Identifies presence of internal and external prostheses or implants
    • Confirms and communicates present medication and dosage lists
  • Post-op recovery of patient including monitoring vitals and physical assessment. Notifies GI physician/anesthesiologist of any problems/issues
  • Patient discharge instructions and teaching
  • Ensure appropriate discharge
  • Performs decontamination, processing and disinfecting activities
  • Decontaminates scopes, equipment and instruments per policy
  • Other duties as requested

  • Graduation from an approved school of nursing
  • Illinois State License, RN

  • Position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking. Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds.
    Normal visual acuity and hearing are required. Employee will work under stressful conditions and work irregular hours.
    Work Environment
    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    Reasoning Ability


    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.

    Qualifications
    EDUCATION: RN degree. Completion of nursing training from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
    EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year professional nursing experience, clinic and gastroenterology experience preferred.
    REQUIREMENTS: Current state registered nurse license. Current CPR certificate.
    Performance Requirements:
  • Knowledge of nursing processes; health care systems, structure, and functions; and community resources. Understanding of health care technology, equipment, and supplies. Familiarity with state law on nursing care, nurse practice guidelines, and clinic policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of chart/medical record documentation requirements and federal/state laws related to release of health care information.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Skill and knowledge in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care.
  • Skill in time management, problem solving, multitasking, prioritizing, and medical care coordination.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in initiating appropriate crisis interventions and emergency response calmly and effectively.
  • Skill in patient triage in person and on the phone.
  • Skill in preparing/maintaining records, writing reports and responding to correspondence.
  • Ability to analyze options and then counsel patients and families about choices and make referrals to other providers and resources.
  • Ability to read and interpret physicians orders and notes from other providers.
  • Ability to calculate and administer drug dosages and injections and measure results.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
