Senior Backend Engineer at BigPanda – California

Location requirements:Remote Based. Open to candidates on the East Coast/Central About the Role:The Event Management group powers BigPanda's core event processing, enrichment, and correlation capabilities, handling millions of daily events across a high-throughput, cloud-native infrastructure.
As an Integrations Engineer, you will be at the forefront of connecting BigPanda's platform with a variety of external systems used by our customers - including ServiceNow, Jira, webhooks, Datadog, vCenter, CloudWatch, Microsoft Teams, and PagerDuty. You'll design, build, and maintain integrations that normalize and enrich alert data, enabling smarter incident management and faster response times. This role is a perfect fit for an engineer who thrives on solving real-world interoperability challenges and making complex systems talk to each other seamlessly. As a Backend Engineer, you will take on challenging problems, design and implement robust, scalable features, and diagnose complex system issues. You'll work with cutting-edge technologies, including Node.js, AWS services, and more.
What you will do:

• Design, develop, and maintain prompts that power AI-driven product features, as well as robust integrations with third-party systems and APIs.
• Implement and follow integration patterns such as event-driven communication, polling, webhooks, and API orchestration.
• Write clean, maintainable code to process, normalize, and transform data flowing between platforms.
• Leverage modern AI development tools to accelerate development, improve code quality, and enhance productivity across the development lifecycle.
• Test integration logic thoroughly across all stages of the development pipeline - including unit tests, integration tests, and staging environments.
• Implement solutions to handle schema changes, API versioning, rate limits, and backward compatibility.
• Monitor and maintain integration pipelines in production, ensuring reliability and scalability.
• Collaborate with product, customer success, and support teams to understand customer needs and troubleshoot complex integration scenarios.
• Maintain detailed documentation of integration interfaces, requirements, and edge cases.

What skills and experience you’ll bring to BigPanda:

• 7+ years of experience as a software engineer
• Experience in designing and building large-scale distributed cloud-based system
• Proven experience in delivering key features from ideation to production
• Ability to deep dive into complex systems and troubleshoot challenging issues effectively
• Familiarity with managing and testing integration code across development pipelines (unit tests, integration tests, staging, and production environments).
• Strong debugging skills and ability to diagnose integration failures in complex environments.
• Experience using AI-powered developer tools (such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) to improve development productivity and code quality.
• Familiarity with prompt engineering and effective use of AI tools for development workflows.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs, cloud-based technologies, and microservices.
• Strong skills in communicating complex ideas and clearly explaining technical concepts and solutions

Optional (Nice to Have):

• Experience with Node.js or similar backend development stacks.
• Hands-on experience with REST APIs, webhooks, authentication standards (OAuth, API Keys, SAML, etc.), and data mapping/transformation (JSON, XML).
• Solid understanding of integration patterns, API orchestration, and cross-system data synchronization.
• Experience working with external systems such as ServiceNow, Jira, webhooks, Datadog, vCenter, CloudWatch, Microsoft Teams, PagerDuty, or similar platforms.

Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position.Market competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation range of $187,000 - $220,000.
