About This Position

Position Overview:

As a guide, you will lead guests on guided mountain bike rides and hikes on the Tanque Verde Ranch trails that are suited to the guest’s skill level. Skill levels are beginner to intermediate. You will instruct guests in proper operation of the bicycles, how to ride safely and efficient mountain biking techniques to promote the enjoyment of the ride and to encourage guests to try mountain biking in the future. The guided mountain bike rides range from 1 to 10 guests on a ride, ages 7 and older. You will also lead guests at Tanque Verde Ranch throughout the various trails that we have on the property. Ranging from novice to more challenging routes. The Hiking Guide should be knowledgeable about the flora of the Sonoran Desert as well as the Tanque Verde Ranch wilderness and the surrounding areas. The Hiking Guide will also provide best in class customer service skills and give guests a good background on the diversity of the flora and fauna that makes Tanque Verde Ranch and southern Arizona a beautiful and unique place to visit. Additionally, you will also run programs such as ax throwing, fishing, archery and BB gun target shooting.

  • Guides guests on mountain bike rides through TVR Ranch Trails
  • Must evaluate guest levels of experience for safety and their enjoyment
  • Skill in teaching bicycling to guests
  • Must be able to engage and entertain when dealing with the guest participants
  • Must safely and efficiently guide rides ranging from 1 – 10 riders.
  • Responsible for the safety and well-being of the children and adults during the day and evening programs.
  • Ensure guest satisfaction by maintaining approved standards and procedures set by the Resort.
  • Must clean the bikes and maintain them at the end of each day
  • Inspects bicycles and protective equipment prior to rides
  • Partner with Hiking Lead and Guest Services to get an accurate guest count for the upcoming days hikes.
  • Provide general knowledge of the Tanque Verde Ranch and the surrounding areas.
  • Ensure that all trails are properly maintained and free of debris.
  • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with Tanque Verde Ranch and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your hikers’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
  • Ensuring accurate navigation and route-finding.
  • Strong listener and communicator
  • Multi-tasking skills, and ability to share focus on many tasks/initiatives simultaneously
  • Job Requirements:

  • Proven problem solving skills with ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • The position may also require the ability to lift over 50 pounds occasionally.
  • This position requires the ability to stand, and, walk, 4 to 5 hours at a time, climb stairs, reach, and bend.
  • High degree of professional and personal integrity

  • Education & Experience

  • High School diploma and/or 1-2 years of bicycling program/guidance experience
  • Ability to stand, and, walk, 4 to 5 hours at a time, climb stairs, reach, bend, taste, see, hear, smell and feel or touch.
  • The position may also require the ability to lift over 50 pounds occasionally.
  • 1-2 years of recreational hiking experience preferred
  • Willingness to work varied hours, periodic holidays
  • CPR/First Aid training desired
