Our Radiation Therapy team at Union Hospital Regional plays a key role in using high-energy radiation, managed by a team including physicists and therapists who work together to provide precise care while monitoring patients and managing treatment side effects, often as part of a larger cancer care plan.
The Radiation Therapist is responsible for is responsible for accurately delivering the prescribed course of treatment to each patient. They will utilize medical imaging equipment to identify treatment location, deliver precise treatment, and closely monitor the patient during treatment. They are responsible for reporting any discrepancies in the patient documentation, patient set up, or patient treatment. They will also offer support to the patients and their families throughout the course of treatment.
This role reports to the Director of Radiation Therapy.
Essential Job Duties, but not limited to:
- Accurately delivers the prescribed course of treatment with minimal supervision.
- Prepares room and equipment for patient set up and treatment delivery.
- Performs and analyzes sophisticated imaging equipment for precise tumor location prior to treatment.
- Demonstrates effective electronic communication skills in order to maintain an accurate Electronic Medical Record.
- Expertise in the technical aspects of Radiation Oncology to include simulation and treatment processes to ensure optimal radiation treatment delivery.
- Ensures that all QA procedures are complete and within tolerances before proceeding with patient treatment as outlined in department policies and procedures (any abnormalities/inconsistencies should be reported to the proper authority).
- Works closely with the Radiation Oncologist and therapy team to construct immobilization devices or custom blocking techniques that are conducive to conformal radiation therapy.

- Displays professional conduct essential to the well-being of the radiation oncology patient, shows empathy while explaining the process and able to answer any questions.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the specific conditions, diseases, and treatment therapies for the patient population of the department.
- Recognizes changes in the patient's status/condition and reports to appropriate personnel.
- Has working knowledge of radiation safety principles and practices as defined by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and other regulatory agencies.
- Knowledgeable in the areas of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, clinical oncology, radiobiology, radiation physics, and radiation safety.
Education:
- Required: Associate degree
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree
Experience:
(Appropriate Education may be substituted for partial experience)
- Required: Graduate from an accredited Radiation Therapy program and certified by the ARRT in Radiation Therapy within 6 months of employment.
- Preferred: 2 years or more
Certification or License:
- ARRT certification in radiation therapy
- Indiana State licensure
- BLS certified
