About This Position

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Drayage Dispatcher to manage daily container moves in and out of the Port of NewarkElizabeth. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of port operations, driver coordination, appointment systems, and customer communication. This role is critical to ensuring efficient, compliant, and on-time drayage operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Dispatch and manage company drivers and owner-operators for port and rail drayage moves
- Coordinate container pickups and deliveries at Port of NewarkElizabeth terminals and rail ramps
- Schedule terminal appointments (Portals such as PortTruckPass, terminal systems)
- Communicate load details, routing, and special instructions to drivers
- Monitor driver status, port congestion, demurrage, and detention issues
- Track container availability, empty returns, and equipment status
- Update TMS with accurate load, driver, and delivery information
- Communicate proactively with customers regarding delays, changes, or issues
- Ensure compliance with DOT, port regulations, and company safety policies
- Resolve operational issues such as missed appointments, chassis shortages, or terminal delays
- Support billing by providing accurate trip details and documentation
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- 2+ years of experience in drayage or intermodal dispatching
- Strong knowledge of Port of NewarkElizabeth terminals and rail yards
- Experience working with owner-operators and company drivers
- Proficiency with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) such as Profit Tools or Trinium
- Excellent communication, multitasking, and problem-solving skills
Preferred:
- Familiarity with chassis providers and equipment management
- Understanding of demurrage, detention, and per diem processes
- Experience with ELD systems
- Knowledge of local NJ/NY port routes and traffic patterns
