Senior Outpatient Technician Position Summary

The Senior Outpatient Technician interacts with patients and other health-care providers to collect, transport and/or process blood and other body fluids from a full spectrum of the patient population. He/she performs EKG procedures in conjunction with the Department of Cardiology, as well as screening spirometry and other special procedures in conjunction with the Department of Respiratory Care. He/she serves as resource person for the section and assists the Outpatient Phlebotomy Coordinator in the management and supervision of the Laboratory Outpatient Phlebotomy and Courtier department. He/she participates in the educational and professional development of laboratory personnel, new employees and students, and participates in the performance of routine administrative and non-routine technical functions

Senior Outpatient Technician Position Requirements

Education

• Successful completion of an approved training program consisting of both lectures and practical application in phlebotomy or comparable education or experience.
• Trained to perform pulmonary and EKG functions.

Experience

• Three years as an Outpatient Technician is preferred.
• Valid driver's license and verification of insurability under TidalHealth's automobile insurance plan.

Senior Outpatient Technician Schedule

• The Laboratory is staffed seven days a week, twenty-four hours per day.
• Personnel may be assigned to work mostly one shift or may have a rotational schedule consisting of duty on day and evening shifts. Both options may include weekends (one or two weekends on duty per month).
• Rotational coverage of holidays.
• Expected to work overtime and/or additional weekends in times of staffing shortages, emergencies and unexpected increases in workload.
