About This Position

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The primary responsibilities of the Sr. Product Developer are to lead the development, engineering, and specification processes to create innovative, high-quality products. Reporting to the Product Development Manager, this role oversees the full commercialization process for assigned product styles and contributes to the strategic vision by defining clear stage-gates and performance expectations. The Product Developer collaborates closely with Product Line Management, Sourcing, Design, and Materials teams, and partners with manufacturing suppliers to support both short- and long-term product objectives

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans and tracks the development schedule of assigned products to ensure a timely completion following the predetermined product development calendar.
  • Develops products, recommends construction techniques that meet Design expectations and meet or exceed predetermined gross margin targets.
    1. Translate design vision and consumer needs into assigned products.
    2. Resolve potential concerns regarding construction, material, fit and wear or cost prior to design tech package hand-off.
    3. Review prototypes for quality, execution, and fit. Provide clear and concise communication to relevant partners, including overseas partners. Modify technical illustrations in Adobe Illustrator as necessary.
  • Ensures execution of fit intent and fit consistency through clear analysis, documentation, communication, and adherence to fit standards.
  • Creates the specifications for the products, publishes, and maintains all records, style files, and samples associated with the product. Maintains PLM system data and information at all times for calendar and reporting purposes.
  • Partners with manufacturers to develop new construction techniques, processes, and samples used to create innovative and technically superior products.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with Product Line Managers, Designers, Materials Development, Sourcing, Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain Management to ensure performance. Manage exception reporting to off-calendar or quality concerns pro-actively to the Product Development Manager.
  • Demonstrates commitment to supporting company goals regarding environmental and social responsibility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

POSITION SPECIFICS:

  • This is a full-time position, typical work hours and days are Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • This position is based out of the Boulder, CO office
  • This position is expected to travel approximately 10%
  • This position requires in-office attendance at least 3 days per week (subject to increase in future).

PAY TRANSPARENCY

  • The Company is committed to fair, equitable, and transparent compensation. Final compensation will be determined by various factors such as your relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.
  • The salary range for this role in Boulder, CO is $80,000.00 - $90,000.00.
  • In addition, you may be eligible for additional compensation, such as a bonus. Employees may also be eligible for a wide range of other benefits, including health & wellness benefits, retirement, time off, employee discounts, and others.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position does not have any leadership requirements and/or responsibilities.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in apparel product development/design, fashion design, textiles or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of Technical Design or Product Development experience in the apparel industry, with strong preference for expertise in technical outdoor apparel and/or cycling apparel.
  • Proven ability to independently manage complex, multi-fabric product styles, typical of performance categories.
  • Advanced understanding of fit, patternmaking, construction methods, and technical manufacturing processes relevant to outdoor and performance gear.
  • Deep knowledge of performance materials, product categories, and the full product development lifecycle.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to confidently lead fittings, product reviews, and cross-functional meetings with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust, foster collaboration, and work effectively with cross-functional partners.
  • Leads issue resolution autonomously providing solutions and creating collaboration.
  • Able to proactively troubleshoot and solve complex problems.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Actively participates in goal setting and consistently drives results to meet objectives.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Adobe Illustrator, and product line management systems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Candidate must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with ability to: be in a stationary position 50% of the time; occasionally move about inside the office to access fine cabinets, office machinery (such as a calculator, copy machine, printer, etc.); constantly operate a computer; occasionally ascend/descend stairs; constantly position self to maintain files in file cabinets; the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations; the ability to observe details at close range (within a few feed of the observer); and frequently move boxes weighing up to 20 pounds across office for various needs. Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions if projects/opportunities arise. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
