About This Position

AmericanAg®, a global provider of diversified reinsurance services, is seeking an entrepreneurial, strategic, and inclusive leader to build and lead its newly established North American Casualty & Specialty operation. The Head of Casualty & Specialty Treaty Reinsurance will be a key member of the Reinsurance Strategy and Placement & Broker Assumed Operations leadership team and will play an important role in helping to drive our growth strategy. This is a hybrid position, working out of the Schaumburg, IL office a minimum of three days a week. There will be up to 25% travel.

The Head of Casualty & Specialty Treaty Reinsurance will be responsible for shaping the underwriting strategy, driving portfolio performance, and expanding the business, while cultivating a collaborative and high-performing team environment. The role includes building and leading an underwriting team and supporting the growth of complementary functions and resources needed to successfully scale the operation.

The Head of Casualty & Specialty Treaty Reinsurance will be responsible for:

  • Providing strategic leadership, underwriting direction, and P&L management for the North American Casualty & Specialty Treaty portfolio.
  • Underwriting and overseeing new and renewal casualty and professional liability programs, including proportional and excess of loss treaty placements, while ensuring adherence to established underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with national and regional brokers to generate new business opportunities and strengthen market presence.
  • Identifying clients that align with the company’s appetite and are additive to the overall portfolio.
  • Partnering with internal stakeholders—including underwriting, claims, actuarial/reserving, exposure management, and distribution—to support disciplined portfolio management and performance optimization.
  • Representing AmericanAg® at key industry forums and client engagements, reinforcing a client-focused approach and strengthening market visibility.
  • Assisting in the recruitment, mentoring, and development of a high-performing and inclusive team, promoting collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Maintaining strong underwriting governance through consistent portfolio monitoring, performance analysis, and adherence to compliance and risk management standards.
  • Contributing to broader business planning, including underwriting strategy, risk appetite, and budgeting, in collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Actively monitoring market trends and engaging in strategic discussions with internal and external parties.
  • Supporting and enhancing the company’s reputation as a reliable, disciplined, and solutions-oriented reinsurance partner.

What you will bring to this role:

  • 10+ years of progressive casualty and/or specialty reinsurance underwriting experience, with significant expertise in treaty business.
  • Proven experience managing and growing profitable portfolios.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of an organization.
  • Experience with reinsurance contract analysis, product development, and business development through broker distribution channels.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a proactive and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%, primarily within North America.

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $215,000 and $285,000. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position is also eligible for an annual productivity bonus.
