SCOPE OF ROLE

Reporting to the Supervisor, Patient Financial Services, the Patient Financial Representative helps patients resolve the patient responsibility portion of medical bills. The Patient Financial Representative creates a welcoming, professional and efficient experience for patients. The Patient Financial Representative will be successful in their role by creating an outstanding patient service experience by providing account resolution during in person and telephone encounters.

HOW YOU’LL SUCCEED

  • Perform as the subject matter expert regarding insurance coverages, including identifying correct insurance plans, hard stops in the EHR, correct filing orders, and accepted payers.
  • Accurately complete patient registration and cash collection during in person and telephone patient interviews to obtain demographic, insurance, medical and financial information.
  • Enroll and educate patients in financial assistance programs such as grants, sliding scale and self-pay options. This includes payment agreement plans, delinquency process, annual renewal and self-pay fees.
  • Educate patients on their financial obligation regarding payments, co-insurances, and co-pays, based on their insurance coverage or lack of insurance coverage.
  • Outreach and educate patients with balances – includes understanding of why the patient has a balance, options to resolve the balance, and discuss financial discharge process if balance is not resolved.
  • Function as an outstanding subject matter expert for your site’s peers, providers and leaders regarding patient financial assistance and coverages.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-2 years’ of experience in a patient facing role in person or via phone in a medical setting required.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Basic PC software application knowledge and ability to use multiple data systems preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office/clinical work environment.
  • While hours of operation are generally standard, flexibility to work evenings and extended hours may be required.
  • Requires periods of sitting, standing, telephone, and computer work.
  • Hearing: adequate to hear clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.
  • Speaking: adequate to speak to clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.
  • Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
  • Physical effort required: occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 15 pounds, unassisted.
  • Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens while performing job duties.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular workday.
  • Sufficient dexterity to operate a PC and other office equipment.
