About This Position

Job Summary:

  • The Patient Care Manager (PCM) is directly responsible to the Director of Surgical Services.
  • PCM is accountable and responsible on a 24-hour basis for the planning and comprehensive operations of assigned clinical unit/s ensuring compliance with hospital and nursing mission, goals, philosophy, policies and procedures. PCM utilizes the nursing process in the delivery of patient care and ensures quality care is provided through appropriate allocation of human resources maintaining financial control of the unit, and serving as a liaison between administration and staff.
  • Responsible and accountable for unit preparedness for DNV surveys and accreditation on a routine basis.
  • Employs organizational strategies in a balanced approach that produces meaningful contributions to each element for success.
  • Requires the promotion of and adherence to the organization’s established Compliance Program and Standards of Conduct.
  • Demonstrate ability to function and perform expectations in a role as staff nurse when needed.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possessing the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed.
  • Demonstrate ability to recognize staff’s individual education needs and provide appropriate guidance and instruction with adequate documentation.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Performance Expectations:

    Demonstrates the ability to oversee and manage the unit by prioritizing the needs of the providers, staff, patients, and visitors. Demonstrate the ability to operate the following equipment: IV/PCA pump, SCD, aqua pad, Doppler, glucose monitor, blood pressure machine, electronic thermometer, computers, medication cart, medication cabinet, defibrillator, phone, fax, scanner, label printer, computer, call light. Accountable for functioning within the unit budget by using cost-effective methods while maintaining safe quality patient care. Must be flexible and knowledgeable in the unit’s day to day events in order to have the ability to provide patient care when needed. Maintain knowledge base of Epic and Timekeeping. Collaborate with physicians and other departments to ensure efficiency and timeliness in providing patient care for optimum outcome. Oversee staff meetings that include but not limited to education regarding safety, infection prevention, financial reviews and any other topic deemed appropriate. Complete annual evaluations with information that has been documented throughout the year to give staff examples of positives and areas that need improvement. Promote cohesiveness amongst staff and other departments.

Education/Skills:

Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program with a bachelor degree in nursing required.

Work Experience:

Two to five years’ experience in nursing required. Prior management experience with demonstrated leadership behaviors is preferred. Required to be able to clinically participate in all components of the nursing process.

Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE

    Licensed RN able to practice within the State of MS
