Description

The Orange County / Inland Empire Small Business Development Center Network is a federal program partially funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration & the California Governor’s Office of Business & Economic Development. The SBDC is hosted by CSU, Fullerton. The purpose of this grant is to provide no-cost technical assistance to entrepreneurs and small business owners in Orange County. The SBDC is seeking applications for Business Consultant - Case Management Specialist. Under the direction of the Center Director of CSUF SBDC, the Business Consultant - Case Management Specialist will serve as the primary strategist, case manager, and training programs lead for small business clients. This role ensures clients receive consistent, high-quality support by combining business consulting expertise with structured case management. The Business Consultant - Case Management Specialist will conduct comprehensive assessments, define scopes of work, and oversee ongoing client progress through coordinated service delivery. Working closely with a network of part-time consultants, this position drives accountability, measures outcomes, and ensures every client receives a seamless, impactful consulting experience aligned with the SBDC’s mission. The ideal candidate is relational, detail-oriented, and highly organized with the ability to motivate both clients and consulting partners. They are skilled in diagnosing business needs, developing strategic action plans, tracking milestones, and ensuring follow-through to achieve measurable results.

*Please be aware that funding for this position is awarded through a Grant/Contract over a specified period. Employment for this position beyond current Grant/Contract funding is contingent upon continued funding or new Grant/Contract.

Essential Duties
  • Provide one-on-one individualized counseling to clients, assisting them with launching and/or growing their ventures.
  • Manage the clients process following a structured case management process.
  • Help manage training programs offered by the center.
  • Responsible for assisting in the implementation and evaluations of programs that provide business advising and training to small business owners.
  • Assist the center in meeting and exceeding annual performance objectives.
  • Promote the center at events within our community.
  • Assist the Center Director in promoting the center activities through a full range of outreach tactics, focusing on attracting new clients.
  • Assist in keeping databases up to date and aligned with our grant requirement.
  • Keep abreast of business trends, techniques, and processes.
  • Work collaboratively with peers and the business community to expand expertise.
  • Community outreach responsibilities will include public presentations to key stakeholders and service on appropriate boards and committees related to economic development.
  • Travel as required to perform cross-county-wide job functions.
  • Complete all forms and maintain client files as required by the SBA.
  • Document information, assistance, and outcomes of sessions with clients related to consulting and training activities performed by the consultant.
  • Provide Center with timely reports related to milestones and success stories of client’s economic outcomes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must be previous or current small business owner.
  • Strong understanding of business assessment and operations.
  • Experience in advising small businesses.
  • Experience delivering business presentations on a variety of topics in a public setting to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Key understanding of small business issues related to starting and growing a business.
  • Knowledge in the ins and outs of day-to-day operations, employeemanagement, and staff operations.
  • Experience in delivering business presentations on a variety of topics in a public setting to diverse audience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with staff,
  • clients, business resources, and the general public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and other applicable software applications.
  • Ability to operate and use modern office equipment including a computer and adapt to changing technologies and learn functionality of new equipment and systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and proficiency with computers and web-based research.
  • Prior experience working for a Small Business Development Center or similar program.
  • Prior experience working within the business community.

EDUCATION:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in a business-related field or equivalent experience in business management or financial analysis (minimum four years), or bachelor’s degree in any field with three (3) years of business management or business ownership.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Lifting of up to 25lbs.; periodic bending; long-term periods of sitting; long term periods operating a computer
