Job Description

Department: Private Event

Reports to: Director of Catering

Statement of Purpose

A Private Event server ensures all Members are provided with prompt and friendly service per KBYC standards. The server plays a key role in every Member’s experience, directly and indirectly. A KBYC server is a natural-born leader who can command their section during peak volume times, while staying attentive during slower times. They know how to help their coworkers while also having the ability to know when to ask for help. The server must have superior knowledge about the Club’s food and beverage offerings and be able to describe and explain menu items as needed or upon Member inquiry, including specific questions regarding dietary restrictions and allergies. The server goes above and beyond to exceed Member expectations by personalizing each interaction in accordance with KBYC standards and culture.

Primary Duties

  • Acknowledge Members warmly with a genuine smile and eye contact, using their name.
  • Communicate with the host for the member's name and any special occasions/dietary restrictions.
  • Inform Members of specials, menu changes, and upcoming events; make menu recommendations.
  • Take food and beverage orders from Members and enter orders into the point-of-sale system (POS), using the correct seat position.
  • Ensure proper service sequencing.
  • Remove used tableware between courses and provide tableware for the next course. Take soiled tableware to the dish room and unload – sort and stack silverware, dishes, glassware, etc. in designated areas.
  • Work as a team with the entire staff. Employees will assist in all areas of the Club in order to provide superior service to the Members. Servers will work together to re-set tables and rooms as quickly as possible, to ensure the dining areas appear organized and clean.
  • Ensure the final check is accurate and the correct Member numbers are used before presenting the bill.
  • Inform the Members of future Club events or specials.
  • Observant to Members' needs throughout dining experience to ensure they receive high quality service, regardless of section.
  • Protect establishment and Members by adhering to sanitation, safety, and alcohol control policies.
  • Perform side work at the start and end of each shift as required by service station assignment.

Operational Skills

  • Ability to work long hours with a strong focus on operational excellence.
  • Ability to understand the flow of service and handle multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to follow KBYC service standards.
  • Ability to learn a POS system quickly.

  • Ability to understand effective approaches of communication with different individuals.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with peers and superiors.
  • Responds well to questions. Listens to others without interrupting. Obtains clarification when necessary.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Language Skills

  • Very good verbal and written communication skills in English is required.
  • Verbal and written communication skills in Spanish is preferred.
  • Verbal communication skills in other languages is a plus.

Organized and Detailed Oriented

  • Supports superiors and colleagues at all times.

Education and Certificates

  • High School qualification or equivalent is required.
  • Food Handling Certificate is a plus.

Experience

  • A minimum of 1-year server experience in a high volume, upscale establishment is required.

Other

  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment in a hot climate.
  • May be required to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to work long hours while standing.
  • Upbeat, outgoing and positive.
  • Reacts well under pressure.
  • Available to work late nights, weekends, holidays, and long hours as necessary.
  • Must have exceptional grooming habits.
