About This Position
Assists the City of Lubbock Internal Audit team in the planning and execution of audits, process improvement projects, and special projects. Interacts with members of city departments to conduct audit testing, extract information concerning process workflows, and complete other administrative tasks as assigned by staff.
- Obtains evidence from audit and process improvement clients;
- Executes audit programs to achieve audit objectives;
- Assists staff analyze and summarize research data for departmental operations, processes, and performance metrics;
- Takes detailed, objective notes and minutes during committee and interdepartmental staff meetings and consultations
- Participates in planning, collaborating, and executing implementation strategies for continuous improvement models;
- Assists in editing and submitting proofs of audit and process improvement documents.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Current Undergraduate or Graduate student in Public Administration, Business, Finance, Social Sciences, or a related field;
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication;
- Is willing to receive a Six Sigma Yellow Belt within the first month of employment;
- Strong research and writing skills.
- Start Date: January 2026. Exact start date determined by applicant’s availability.
- Hours: Interns generally work on average 20 hours per week depending on the needs of the office and availability of the individual. Working hours are from 8–5pm, Monday–Friday.
- Principles and practices of public administration and municipal government;
- Basic understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods;
- Use of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office Suite programs.
- Interpret and summarize complex data, and participate in creating innovative solutions;
- Develop and maintain professional relationships;
- Clearly communicate at multiple organizational levels.
- Maintain the ability to frequently walk and stand;
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
