About This Position
Job Overview
School Psychologist needed for county wide NYSED Preschool evaluations, to determine and identify learning disabilities or other issues that negatively impact a child's ability to learn. Psychologist will assess the child's cognitive abilities, academic achievement levels, information processing abilities, and general emotional and behavioral issues and the impact on the child's academic success. Psychologist will work in conjunction with a designated evaluation team in testing required components of a child's learning or development, and identify the child's strengths and weaknesses. The evaluation process, including reporting and CPSE meetings, will help students prepare for higher education by identifying the ways in which they learn most efficiently.
Duties
- Evaluations can only be done during school hours and when school is in session.
- The School Psychologist schedules their portion of the evaluation first and typically within 2 weeks of receiving the referral.
- The schedule is completely based on the School Psychologist’s availability and can be scheduled as desired.
- The School Psychologist is responsible for the Social History and the Psychological Evaluation portions of the evaluation.
- Typically, a combination of the following assessments are used to complete the evaluation:
- Adaptive Behavior Assessment System, Third Edition (ABAS-3), Parent/Caregiver Form
- Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scales of Intelligence-Fourth Edition (WPPSI-IV)
- Behavior Assessment System for Children-Third Edition (BASC-3)
- Developmental Assessment of Young Children-Second Edition (DAYC-2)
- A template for the write up is provided and needs to be submitted via google drive by the requested timeframe.
- Evaluations generally take 1-1.5 hours to complete plus the time to complete the write up.
- We typically do 10-15 evaluations per month but with School Psychologist capacity we can accept more referrals.
Experience
- A Master's or Doctoral degree in School Psychology or a related field is required.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is a plus.
