Pay/Stipend: The stipend range for this role is $345-$365/day for each trip off-campus day; DOE; $200/ day for prep days

The Program
Through active service and study, Lakeside’s 5-12 Global Service Learning Program seeks to develop in students an awareness of, respect for, and understanding of diverse cultural communities as well as the common issues facing our local, regional and global community. The MS GSL program combines on-site service learning with a cultural immersion experience where Eighth grade students travel to one of six sites within driving distance of Seattle and learn about global issues affecting that community. Examples include learning from indigenous communities on the Olympic Peninsula, immigrant farm communities in central Washington, and from non-profits in Spokane, Washington that support refugee resettlement in the area. In each location, students learn from local partners and work alongside community members to gain a holistic understanding of daily life, culture, and complex issues facing each community. The experiences are integrated with the academic curriculum across the disciplines before, during and following the trips. The program serves as a leadership opportunity and a culmination of experiences that students have had in the fifth, sixth, and seventh grade Service-Learning and Outdoor Programs.

Responsibilities:
The MS GSL trip leader collaborates with two other trip leaders to lead and execute all aspects of the trip while on site and away from campus for 6 days; contribute to some pre-trip logistical planning; collaborate on all curriculum. This position reports to the MS GSL Manager and the Director of Experiential Education. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Leading reflection activities daily for students, including assisting with the trip blog
  • Being present and involved in aspects of group living (group meetings, cooking group meals, managing shared group living accommodations)
  • Overseeing risk management for students during the trip
  • Maintaining financial records during the trip and reconciling receipts
  • Collaborating with co-leaders and program partners to deliver curriculum to students
  • Upholding Lakeside School Community Expectations with students and co-leaders, and being a community representative for the school

Requirements: Ability to drive students; Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification. Experience with youth in an educational context.

Application Process: Interested candidates should submit a brief cover letter, resume, and work history. Please ensure you address the following question in your application: Why are you interested in this opportunity, and how do you think you can contribute to and enrich the experience for students?
