Job Description
The Medical Receptionist is responsible for the initial and final impression to patients. Supervision is provided by the Chief Executive Officer.
Job Duties (Includes, but is not limited to):
- Greets medical patients to determine needs and responses.
- Maintains reception room in an orderly fashion.
- Handles telephone calls coming into the Center, transferring accordingly, and documenting appropriate call information.
- Assists new patients in completing paperwork.
- Schedules all medical appointments by maintaining appointments in the electronic records system, confirming patient insurance eligibility daily, handling cancellations and emergencies, rescheduling, and working to optimize provider efficiency through appropriate scheduling.
- Maintain follow-up of missed or cancelled appointments.
- Maintain log information, e.g. hospital log – admissions, discharges, follow-up appointments and whether those appointments were kept.
- If a patient of previous record prior to implementation of the Electronic Health Records (EHR) presents for an appointment, the patient paper record should be pulled and pertinent information should be scanned into the corresponding EHR. All charts needing pulled should respectively be filed. And if the patient has information in Allscripts, to request of appropriate staff to retrieve pertinent information.
- Accept deliveries of supplies.
Working Conditions:
Medical office environment. Multi-task oriented position may require sitting or standing for long periods. May involve contact with angry, upset, or ill persons. Must have visual acuity and manual dexterity to perform accurate computer skills. Must have auditory acuity to handle phone calls and extensive patient interaction.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
The Medical Receptionist must be responsible, have good interpersonal skills, good organizational skills, excellent communication skills, and good leadership qualities. Must have accurate typing skills. Must have pleasant demeanor when relating to patients in a businesslike manner. Experience as a medical receptionist or previous knowledge of medical procedures with electronic records is preferred.
The medical receptionist will typically work at their primary location but also provides coverage at CBHSA's other location.
