The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for implementing a treatment program for patients evaluated by the Physical Therapist. This is an outpatient position. In this role, the Physical Therapist Assistant will be the supervisor for the front office staff when the Physical Therapist is not in the building. The Physical Therapist Assistant will also maintain a positive working relationship with other health professionals and ancillary staff. The Physical Therapist Assistant will report to the attending Physical Therapist.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Provides direct patient care, progress functional needs and outcomes, and consults with other specialists and the attending physical therapist.
· Reviews patients’ functional needs and adjusts care plans to ensure optimal patient outcomes in consultation with the physical therapist.
· Conducts therapy practice within defined standards of care.
· Directs the assistance of support staff to achieve patients’ functional goals.
· Communicates effectively with other professional and support staff to achieve positive patient outcomes.
· Practices departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
· Documents treatment progress, and updates plans in consultation with the physical therapist. Regularly updates documentation and maintains prescriptions and signatures.
· Enhances professional growth and development of self and others through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, and workshops. Keeps up to date on professional literature.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of APTA or CAPTE approved Physical Therapy Assistant program.
- State licensure
- Basic Life Support Certification from the American Heart Association
Physical Requirements:
· Duties require standing and walking.
· Requires lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring patients.
· Duties require frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
