Sports Official (SEAS Hourly) in Clemmons, North Carolina at Young Mens Christian Association of Northwest Nort

Candidates for the sports official position must have an enthusiastic personality with an ability to develop relationships with participants, parents and other staff. They must have general knowledge of the major sports and a desire to use that knowledge to grow professionally with the YMCA. They should present themselves in a professional, caring manner and have excellent communication skills. They should also learn and understand the YMCA’s mission and best practices in order to help foster and ensure all sports practices, games and events in the gym have a mission driven atmosphere.

Schedule: Evenings and weekends required. Possible schedule includes Monday-Friday 4:45pm-8:45pm, Saturday 8:00am-5:00pm, Sundays 12:00pm-6:00pm. 4-12 hours weekly based on programming needs.

Responsibilities include:

• Officiate youth and adult sports games with enthusiastic passion and sound judgment
• Engage and build relationships with coaches, participants and parents
• Assist with projects as needed
• Monitor all activities in the gym or field including proper use of equipment
• Assure a fun, safe and quality experience that is in accordance with Association policies/guidelines. This includes monitoring language and behavior of Y participants.
• Clean the gym or field as needed
• Ensure safety for all participants with a knowledge of rules and precautions
• Understand and enforce all rules for game play set by the Association
• Help coach pre-school participants in our Rookie Sports programs
• Assist with sports department marketing

• Working knowledge of rules for basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer and / or baseball preferred
• Ability to work with children of all ages required
• Ability to accept supervision, critique and guidance required
• Good communication skills with children, coaches and parents required
• Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control required
• Willing to officiate at other branches in the YMCA of NWNC association
