Job Description

The Clinical and Developmental Psychology programs in the Department of Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh invite applications for one tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Clinical and Developmental Psychology, pending budgetary approval, to begin Fall of 2027. We seek candidates with a PhD in Clinical Psychology with research interests in clinical and developmental psychology. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research focuses on developmental psychopathology in children and/or adolescents, and the mechanisms through which family, social, and broader contextual experiences shape risk and resilience across childhood and adolescence. Areas of particular interest include early childhood development, family and parenting processes, adversity and stress, affective or neurocognitive mechanisms, prevention and intervention, and the application of neuroscience methods to the study of developmental psychopathology. We also welcome candidates whose work would contribute to the department-wide emphasis on socio-cultural and strengths-based approaches to developmental science. Preference will be given to candidates who are licensed or licensed eligible.

The Psychology Department has a longstanding tradition of integrating clinical and developmental science, anchored in a Clinical Psychology program that has been APA-accredited since 1948. Our joint Clinical–Developmental training has prepared generations of scholars to bring developmental theory and methods to the study of developmental psychopathology, risk, resilience, and family functioning, while fostering close collaboration across the two programs, other graduate training programs (Biological and Health, Cognitive, and Social), and the broader University and UPMC research communities. Its 31 tenure-stream faculty members are committed to excellence in research and in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The interdisciplinary nature of psychological science is reflected in both faculty research interests and collaborations and training options afforded to graduate students. The deadline for submitting applications is November 20.

Applicants should assemble and submit a cover letter, CV, statement of research (max 3 pages) and teaching (max 2 pages), a service statement (max 2 pages), up to three papers, and the names of three prospective referees. Other materials may be requested following the initial candidate review. For more information about the Department, including details about research emphasis in each of the five program areas, see http://www.psychology.pitt.edu. For more information about the position, please contact the co-chairs of the search committee, Sophie Choukas-Bradley (scb.1@pitt.edu) and Diana Leyva (diana.leyva@pitt.edu).

Please note that this is a second position in the Department of Psychology, which is separate from our ongoing recruitment of an Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychology focused on adult psychopathology that can be found here.
