POSITION SUMMARY

California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) seeks a core faculty member to teach and mentor doctoral students in the Somatic Psychology concentration within the Department of Research Psychology.

The position supports an interdisciplinary, research-focused PhD integrating embodied experience, psychological science, critical inquiry, and transformative scholarship. The successful candidate will bring a strong record of teaching and scholarship in somatic psychology and a commitment to doctoral research mentorship, inclusive pedagogy, and collaborative faculty governance.

The concentration prepares scholar-practitioners to critically investigate embodied life, somatic processes, and their relationships to psychological, relational, cultural, and social experience.

This is a research doctorate, not a clinical licensure-training program. Courses are taught online through synchronous and asynchronous instruction, with required in-person academic gatherings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach doctoral-level courses in somatic psychology and related research areas, including course design, assessment, and timely student feedback. Full-time core faculty teaching expectation is 18 units or equivalent annually; part-time appointments are prorated (e.g., 0.6 FTE = 10.8 units), subject to approved workload allocations.
  • Advise doctoral students and serve as dissertation chair, committee member, and/or examiner as assigned; support research design, methodological rigor, ethical review, scholarly writing, and progress toward degree completion.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, assessment, academic standards, and concentration-level planning in collaboration with the Department Chair and faculty colleagues.
  • Maintain an active program of research and scholarship, including publications, conference presentations, and professional contributions.
  • Participate in departmental and university faculty meetings, governance committees, admissions and recruitment activities, and other proportionate service responsibilities.
  • Support an inclusive, accessible, culturally responsive learning environment; facilitate embodied and experiential learning with appropriate ethical boundaries and attention to student choice.
  • Fulfill faculty obligations consistent with the CIIS Faculty Handbook, including academic integrity, advising availability, and professional responsibilities.
