The VDC Specialist I is responsible for facilitating interdepartmental communication, ensuring task completion, and coordinating activities across various teams within the organization. This role requires a combination of technical proficiency, industry knowledge, and effective communication skills to support the successful execution of projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
- Interdepartmental Communication:
- Communicate effectively with VDC project lead, Project managers (PMs), clients, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project operations.
- Resolve conflicts and facilitate collaboration between different teams to achieve project goals.
- Thermal Proficiency:
- Advanced knowledge in Thermal Design. This includes the ability to manage a scope of work and correctly design and model using all resources.
- Act as a VDC Lead for future projects.
- Train new hires and help the VDC Technicians with their comments and concerns.
- Look over completed scopes of work and identify errors.
- Have a direct line of communication to the PM for all issues related to the project.
- Advanced knowledge of Thermal terminology.
- The ability to create a working model for a new scope of work with limited errors.
- Advanced knowledge of all ISAT manuals and details.
- Expert understanding of the ISAT workflow to ensure a clash free model.
- Confidence in the ability to contact the customer and join meetings.
- Advanced knowledge of scheduling and printing sheets at the end of the scope of work.
- Ability to import .mdb files. This includes the ability to align nodes with the scope of work they pertain to and identifying possible incorrect information in parameters.
- Ability to export .pcf file.
- Ability to install and troubleshoot thermal specific tools in Revit.
- Accurately and efficiently use .dwg from engineering to identify support placement.
- Leadership:
- Provide VDC Service Group education to new hires, covering fundamental concepts and tools necessary for project execution.
- Provide leadership in modeling oversight and project scheduling to optimize team performance.
- Foster long-term association with more than one personnel in order to impart necessary information for their growth.
- Tax Completion and Coordination:
- Proactively identify and resolve conflicts to maintain project momentum and foster collaboration. This includes assessing current workflows and ascertain changes or necessary additions to improve them.
- Ensure correct use of naming conventions for all Thermal related content.
- Be in communication with the PM and group Manager for all issues at the first instance so it can be resolved quickly.
- Coordinate task completion, model synching, and other project activities with peers to ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
- Conduct peer checks and ensure adherence to industry standards and best practices for clash detection and model coordination. This includes demonstrating experience with niche clash and the ability to provide resolutions.
- Utilize task coordination techniques to manage workloads efficiently and effectively.
- Use data points to produce documentation on current processes using KPIs and other performance metrics.
- BIM360 and Engineering Proficiency:
- Possess an intermediate understanding of BIM360 and basic engineering details to support project requirements.
- Demonstrate intermediate model navigation and knowledge within Navisworks, Bluebeam, and ISAT specific tools.
- Engage Stratus to compile and deliver takeoffs to relevant personnel.
- Perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures such as cursory checks, accuracy scans, and peer reviews on deliverables prior to submittal.
- Construction Industry Knowledge:
- Demonstrate a general understanding of construction method standard and building codes to determine application and provide practical insights into decision-making processes.
- Capability to model thermal bracing/supports in Revit and evaluate constructability of proposed implementations. Provide insight and solutions to errors discovered throughout the process.
- Familiarity with ISAT products and solutions, including ISAT hardware and engineered solutions. Demonstrating advanced knowledge of proper VDC techniques and ISAT specific problems.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 3 years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience with increasing responsibility for project components related to BIM.
- Demonstrated ability to present technical material. Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule.
- Knowledge of building codes, LEAN construction techniques, and LEED principles.
- Should specifically be proficient with BIM computer applications such as Navisworks Manage, Autodesk Point Layout, Trimble, Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD and BIMTrack.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and educate team members effectively.
- With 2+ years’ experience, the VDC Specialist I is an intermediate position for virtual construction within the ISAT Total Support employment structure. Their objective is to effectively populate, coordinate design models and export any other project related information for the VDC Service Group. Additionally, VDC Specialist I should be an informational and quality control resource within the VDC Service Group.
- High level of attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality, and a critical eye for design.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
