The Club at Crazy Mountain Ranch is a private membership experience set on 18,000 extraordinary acres in the state of Montana. Crazy Mountain Ranch is a project by Lone Mountain Land Company (LMLC) that manages the planning, entitlement, building, marketing, and sale of premier real estate communities around Big Sky, Montana.
Position Summary:
At Crazy Mountain Ranch, The Assistant Superintendent reports to the Director of Golf Course and Grounds/ Superintendent and assists in directing, planning, coordinating, operation, and maintenance of the golf course including tees, greens, fairways and all other golf course areas. This position directly or indirectly supervises employees and/or supervisors; carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Club’s policies, procedures and applicable laws; responsibilities include but are not limited to: interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Job Duties:
- Assist in planning and supervising the maintenance operations of greens, tees, and fairways.
- Schedule work assignment and supervise the employees.
- Instruct equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment.
- Supervise and participate in pesticide/fertilizer applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide/fertilizer application equipment.
- Support and supervise in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
- Assist in personnel management and employee safety, personnel discipline and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation
- Work closely with owners, general manager, directors, architects, and contractors to efficiently maintain Crazy Mountain Ranch to meet world-class golf expectations
- Assist and help oversee all operations of the Crazy Mountain Ranch golf course maintenance department and all members of the turf maintenance team.
- Plan and implement staffing schedules to ensure quality standards are achieved with high efficiency.
- Participate in the development of the annual maintenance budget and operating plan. Implement the plan according to the Company operating policies and procedures to ensure cost containment.
- Ensure all appropriate quality and cleanliness standards are being followed including but not limited to, employee hygiene and uniforms, equipment repair area, equipment storage areas, chemical and fertilizer storage areas, receiving areas, washing areas, lunchroom areas, restrooms, etc.
- Supervise and perform various maintenance duties as necessary to maintain the golf course in proper playing conditions according to club standards.
- Supervise and lead course construction projects
- Supervise equipment maintenance and repair operations. Establish and implement a cleaning and preventative maintenance program for appropriate equipment, tools, vehicles etc.
- Monitor soil moisture levels and manage or oversee daily irrigation practices and scheduling to ensure optimal levels of soil moisture for playability and turf health.
- Perform routine inspection and upkeep of the irrigation system including changes and repairs, as necessary.
- Assist in the development and implementation of programs, including fertility, integrated pest management and cultural practice programs, among others to maintain turf grass health and ensure the course is being presented at the desired level of conditioning.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, OSHA rules and regulations, all rules and regulations relating to chemical and fertilizer application, storage and disposal, employee safety, public safety, etc.
- Management of employment activities for golf course maintenance team members, including but not limited to, personnel recruitment, selection, and training.
- Maintain accurate records pertaining to departmental activities including, but not limited to labor schedules, course maintenance programs and activities, construction activities, equipment inventory and repair, safety meetings and activities, fertilizer and chemical applications and pest control practices.
- Submit all required operational, financial, budgetary, and related reports in a timely manner.
- Maintain necessary inventories, purchase necessary items through the purchase order system and complete all necessary forms and coding processes.
- Coordinates winter maintenance activities when necessary, including but not limited to: Irrigation system blowout, snow fencing, snow plowing/blowing/shoveling and other winter tasks.
- Open the maintenance facility and runs operations in the absence of Director of Golf Course and Grounds or Superintendent.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with all employees, supervisors, managers and directors.
- Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned by Director of Golf Course and Grounds.
- Responsible for various tasks during winter months including property snow removal and other Club assistance as directed by Director of Golf Course and Grounds.
- Participate directly in payroll related functions of the staff each pay period.

Competencies:
- Working knowledge of the maintenance practices of golf course tees, fairways, greens along with experience and understanding of a high-level golf course maintenance operations.
- Demonstrated experience and capability in the areas of budget development, financial management, strategic planning and staff management
- Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications
Qualifications:
- Turfgrass management Certificate or Degree
- 2-3 years’ experience in a position of 2nd Assistant or Assistant in Training
- Valid Driver’s License
- Pesticide License or ability to obtain one in state of Montana
- Possess a high-level of written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
