Job Description
SUMMARY: The Groundskeeper is responsible for the upkeep and grooming of the university grounds. Understanding and a passion for working outside is necessary including all types of weather.
JOB’S ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Mows grass and trims with power mowers and other power tools.
- Plant and Weed flower beds, around shrubs and trees as directed.
- Removes dead branches, prunes, and maintains trees.
- Assists with the removal and disposal of trash and debris.
- Rake or blow leaves and grass.
- Assists with snow removal and de-icing of campus.
- Assists maintenance as needed including furniture moves and sets-up offices and other academic spaces as directed.
- Maintains streets in the immediate vicinity of the campus.
- Maintains parking lots.
- Provide support and manpower as directed to other departments as well as Facilities Management.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma and one to two years of experience in the care of maintenance of a similar facility. Will also accept any combination of education, training, or experience which fulfills the requirements of the position and needs of the University.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, and ATTITUDES – KSAA’s:
Knowledge of:
- Use and potential hazards of cleaning agents including solvents, disinfectants, detergents, and polishing agents.
- Tools and equipment commonly used in custodial work.
- Standard custodial practices, procedures, and techniques.
Skill in:
- Using a computer to perform basic operations.
- Operating floor scrubbing machines, carpet shampooing equipment and high-speed floor polishing equipment.
Ability to:
- Able to work and communicate effectively with diverse academic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of college students and staff.
- Exercise considerable judgment and initiative.
- Follow protocols and escalate as needed.
- Understand and follow broad and complex instructions.
- Ability to work within the overall organization of Facilities Management.
