This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Payroll Specialist Lead based in Germany.

Join a global Payroll Operations team and take ownership of end-to-end payroll delivery for your assigned country.
You’ll serve as a subject matter expert, ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance, timely processing, and strong data quality.
The role combines hands-on payroll expertise with process improvement, performance management, and stakeholder collaboration.
You’ll work closely with teams across Finance, Payroll Implementation, Product, and Engineering in a highly international environment.
As a lead, you’ll also mentor payroll specialists and provide operational support to regional managers when needed.
The culture is remote-first and largely asynchronous, giving you the autonomy to organize your work around your life.
It’s an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while helping build efficient, scalable global payroll operations.

Accountabilities
  • Own and execute end-to-end payroll processing for the assigned country, including statutory filings, exceptions, approvals, payments, and compliance requirements.
  • Act as the country payroll subject matter expert, ensuring payroll practices remain accurate, compliant, and aligned with local requirements.
  • Maintain high standards of data integrity, payroll accuracy, and quality throughout the payroll cycle.
  • Prepare and manage payroll journals and reconciliations, investigating discrepancies and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
  • Monitor and deliver against key KPIs and SLAs, identifying risks and taking proactive corrective action.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders across Payroll Implementation, Finance, Product, Engineering, and other relevant teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve, automate, and streamline payroll processes, increasing productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Mentor, support, and share knowledge with payroll specialists to strengthen team capabilities and performance.
  • Provide backup support to regional managers during periods of absence and contribute to broader payroll operations initiatives.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end payroll processing, either in-house or within a payroll service provider environment.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll best practices, compliance principles, and payroll operations.
  • Experience with French payroll processing from end to end.
  • Experience using Silae payroll software is required or highly relevant to the role.
  • Proficiency with productivity and data tools such as Excel and Google Workspace.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a structured approach to identifying and resolving payroll issues.
  • A continuous-improvement mindset and enthusiasm for finding ways to make processes faster, more efficient, and more scalable.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, international, fully remote environment and collaborate effectively across distributed teams.
  • Comfortable working largely asynchronously, with a high degree of autonomy, ownership, and proactive communication.
  • Fluent written and spoken English and French.
  • Previous remote-work experience is a plus, but not mandatory.
  • Strong mentoring, communication, stakeholder-management, and organizational skills.
Benefits:
  • Annual salary range of €50,300–€56,550 EUR, with final compensation determined by factors including location, experience, skills, training, and market conditions.
  • Work from anywhere with a fully remote working model.
  • Flexible working hours within an asynchronous work environment.
  • Flexible paid time off to support sustainable work-life balance.
  • 16 weeks of paid parental leave.
  • Budget for co-working spaces, learning, and wellness, including gym memberships.
  • Mental health support services.
  • Stock options.
  • Home office budget and IT equipment.
  • A globally distributed, multicultural environment with opportunities to collaborate across countries and functions.
  • A strong focus on pay equity, fairness, inclusion, and employee growth and development.
