Job Description
Position:
Payroll Clerk
Department:
Finance
Supervisor:
Payroll Manager
Location:
· Mt Morris, PA
Status:
· Full Time/Non Exempt (At-Will)
Purpose:
· The payroll clerk will accurately complete weekly payroll tasks in accordance with established practices and guidelines.
Responsibilities:
· Maintains payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data
· Updates payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job title and department/division transfers
· Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages
· Resolves payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
· Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests according to company policies and procedures
· Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes
· Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential
· Maintenance and filing of employee payroll records
· All other duties as assigned
Skills:
· Strong computer skills with specific experience that includes Excel, Word, Outlook, and accounting ERP systems
· Familiarity with payroll software a plus
· Strong attention to detail required
· General understanding of accounting practices and principles
· Knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations and requirements
· Strong ability to effectively communicate in both verbal and written communications
Experience / Education:
· High school diploma/GED required
· Minimum one year payroll department experience (3 or more years preferred)
Physical Requirements:
Ability to remain seated for long periods of time in a standard issue desk chair
· Ability to tolerate prolonged exposure to computer screens, mobile phone screens
Ability to read documents and materials in hard and soft copy form (either naturally or with corrective lenses)
· Ability to work more than 40 hours in any given week including weekend assignments when required
· Ability to move from one location to another; within and around locations
· Ability to understand the speech of others
· Ability to frequently bend to file and maintain files
· Ability to occasionally lift 5-10 pounds
· Ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident
