Job Title: Cook
Department: Caritas Youth Therapeutic Treatment Center
Status: Part-Time, exempt
Reports To: Head Cook
Starting Compensation Pay: $20.40/hr
Description of Typical Work Schedule: 6am – 2:30 pm every Sunday, Monday and Tuesday plus every other Holiday
Hours Worked (typical): 16-24
PURPOSE: The purpose of this vital role is preparation of vital nourishment to children from challenging backgrounds. In this position, you will prepare meals in large batches to be distributed to clients, individually prepare and/or create meals for clients based on their needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure freshness of food and ingredients by checking for quality, keeping track of old and new items, and rotating stock.
- Ensure food is stored and cooked at the correct temperature by regulating the temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters.
- Inspect and clean food preparation areas, such as equipment, work surfaces, and serving areas, to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices.
- Measure portions, arrange, and garnish food, and serve food to waiters or patrons.
- Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment.
- Season and cook food according to recipes or personal judgment and experience.
- Wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables to prepare them for consumption.
- Bake, roast, broil, and steam meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods.
- Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with utensils.
- Maintain food, beverage, or equipment inventories.
- Clean food preparation areas, facilities, or equipment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/PREFERRED
Degree/Field Required: High school diploma (Related fields will be considered.)
Degree/Field Preferred: High school diploma (Related fields will be considered.)
Experience Required: General culinary knowledge.
Experience Preferred: 6-12 months in food service field.
Licenses/Certifications Required: Must have or be able to obtain a Public Health Food Service Licensure and Food sanitation.
VEHICLE RELATED REQUIREMENTS:
Access to reliable transportation: Required.
Access to a reliable automobile: Not Required but preferred.
Proof of continued insurance: Not Required but preferred.
Valid driver’s license: Not Required but preferred.
