Job Description

Summary

This position reports to the Vice President, Quality, Experience, and Value and is responsible for leading operational excellence, developing leaders, and advancing an organizational culture of continuous improvement. The Director of Organizational Performance Excellence builds upon the organization’s investment in Lean Six Sigma (LSS) to support achievement of strategic goals and operational objectives. This role applies LSS principles to facilitate rigorous, data-driven improvement projects and work redesign; assess, prioritize, and complete initiatives based on their potential to generate cost savings, enhance revenue, reduce wait times and delays, and improve customer and employee satisfaction. The Director develops and teaches LSS courses, coaches leaders in scientific problem solving, supports enterprise-wide idea management and continuous improvement systems, and provides key operational performance insights, including financial, productivity, and quality indicators.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in business, industrial engineering, healthcare, or a related field.
  2. Seven to ten years of relevant experience in performance improvement, including at least three to five years in a leadership role within a mature Lean Six Sigma program, preferably in healthcare.
  3. Demonstrated expertise in statistical analysis and analytical problem solving.
  4. Experience teaching Lean Six Sigma methods, tools, and skills.
  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  6. Advanced computer skills, including proficiency with the Windows operating system, Microsoft Office applications, Minitab, and QI Macros.
  7. Proven track record of leading successful performance improvement projects.
  8. Ability to build strong relationships with peers and influence outcomes without direct authority.
  9. Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Lean certification from ASQ or another accredited body.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in a related field.
  2. Five or more years of relevant experience in a healthcare setting.
  3. Experience presenting to or working directly with senior executives.
  4. Demonstrated experience developing and/or teaching courses on Lean values, culture, methods, and skills.
  5. Demonstrated record of progressive responsibility and leadership in a performance improvement role.
  6. Proficiency with process mapping software, such as Microsoft Visio.
