Radio Frequency Network Engineer - Senior

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for advanced waveform analysis, RF propagation, and Transmission Security (TRANSEC) techniques.
  • Utilize MATLAB, Python, SignalHound, and other RF analysis tools to capture, process, and analyze RF signals and waveform performance.
  • Design, architect, and prototype end-to-end RF systems in laboratory environments using Software Defined Radios (SDRs), Faraday enclosures, and specialized RF test equipment.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans for tactical radio systems, including High Assurance and SBU-E communications systems.
  • Conduct interoperability, security, performance, and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) assessments in contested Electronic Warfare (EW) environments.
  • Support the integration, evaluation, and security assessment of emerging 5G technologies within tactical military communications architectures.
  • Develop innovative waveform obfuscation and TRANSEC methodologies to improve tactical communications security.
  • Collaborate with government stakeholders, Program Managers, vendors, and technical teams to deliver advanced RF capabilities to operational users.
  • Validate technical inputs, establish analytical methodologies, ensure quality technical outputs, and communicate results effectively to stakeholders.
  • Represent Army and DoW interests in technical working groups, spectrum management forums, and engineering committees.
  • Present complex technical findings and recommendations to both technical and executive-level audiences.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of RF engineering best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in Radio Frequency (RF) engineering supporting Department of War or Department of Defense communications systems.
  • Knowledge of 4G/5G cellular technologies, architectures, RF interfaces, and their application within tactical and secure communications environments.
  • Experience conducting Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) analyses for spectrum-dependent military systems.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, or similar programming languages used to augment RF modeling and simulation capabilities.
  • Knowledge of high-assurance and SBU-E tactical radio systems including:
    • Silvus Technologies
    • Persistent Systems
    • L3Harris
    • Thales
    • Trellisware
  • Familiarity with proliferated Low Earth Orbit (pLEO) communications capabilities including Starshield and Space Development Agency (SDA) architectures.
  • In-depth understanding of waveform development, analysis, and RF communications protocols.
  • Knowledge of tactical messaging formats, waveform propagation characteristics, and radio networking principles.
  • Familiarity with Communications Security (COMSEC) principles and secure tactical communications architectures.
  • Experience utilizing RF engineering tools including:
    • Systems Tool Kit (STK)
    • Visualyse Professional
    • Visualyse Builder
    • EDX SignalPro
  • Knowledge of Department of War, Army, or Service-specific spectrum-dependent communications and navigation systems.
  • Understanding of RF propagation models, spectrum engineering principles, and frequency management.
  • Knowledge of NTIA Redbook spectrum allocation requirements and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and technical briefing skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related STEM discipline.
  • Experience supporting Army tactical communications modernization initiatives.
  • Experience supporting Electronic Warfare (EW), tactical networking, or spectrum operations programs.
  • Experience integrating commercial 5G technologies into military communications environments.
  • Experience developing advanced waveforms or secure tactical communications solutions.
  • Prior experience leading technical teams and mentoring engineers.
  • Experience presenting technical recommendations to senior government leadership.


Clearance:

  • DoW secret level clearance.


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Science, Technology, Mathematics, or related technical field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Radio Frequency Engineering, tactical communications, spectrum management, waveform analysis, o2363r related engineering disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting military communications, tactical radio systems, and RF modernization initiatives.


Location:

  • Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland.
  • Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Schedule flexing is available with the PM’s approval.

Travel:

  • Once a quarter or less.

  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs.

  • Able to stand or sit for long periods of time
