Job Description

UNIT ASSISTANT- 5 SOUTH (NEURO-SURGICAL/TRAUMA UNIT)

Position Summary

The primary purpose of the Unit Assistant is to perform clerical duties. The Unit Assistant role involves answering phones, answering call lights, assisting physicians during their rounds, order entry, along with chart preparation and tear down.

Department Summary

Memorial 5 South is a 24-bed Neurosurgery step-down and progressive care unit. Common patients that are seen are neurosurgery, post-surgical back/spine, general surgery, and trauma as well as many more opportunities to learn. Patients cared for in the progressive care unit include patients requiring invasive (arterial) blood pressure monitoring, lumbar drains and, acute intracranial hemorrhages.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Clinical Experience, preferred.
  • Adheres to the hospital attendance policy and will make every effort to consistently be punctual when reporting to work and during daily activities.
  • Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required.

  • Exhibits High Reliability Organization (HRO) tools and tones.
  • Responsible for timely review of emails, department communications and applicable learning assignments and completion as applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

  • Varied locations and hours as required by the job.
  • Work weekends and holidays as assigned or as applicable based on department needs.
  • Meal and break times are coordinated with other staff members to maintain adequate coverage.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day.
  • Cross training depending upon department needs.
