OVERVIEW:
The Inventory Control and Purchasing Manager is accountable for managing and controlling inventory levels, and accuracy. This includes inbound receipts, locating/storage, and flow through the facility. The role includes purchasing certain component materials, MRO and other supplies to insure smooth operation of the facility. The Material Manager collaborates with planning, production and outbound teams to determine supply needs, purchase supplies and materials and maintain accurate inventory levels.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains optimum inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries to meet customer requirements – develop min/max system to monitor inventory
- Responsible for exploration for new materials, suppliers, and processes to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, prices, continuity, and delivery
- Establishes procedures and supervises the annual physical inventory
- Supervise, inbound raw material team members to ensure SAP WMS practices are followed for all inventory transactions from inbound to outbound and each stage in between
- Interfaces with product line coordinators on the planning and forecasting of customer orders to meet shipments
- Maintain relationships and negotiate with suppliers along with purchase supplies and materials according to specifications
- Ensures company standard practices and procedures are followed in connection with all materials department functions
- Recommend solutions to reduce waste and increase first run quantity
- Recording and assessing material quality, movement, and expenditure
- Managing material and supply distribution in the facility
- Collaborate with management to plan forecasting models.
- Preparing and filing detailed records on procurement activity, quantity, and vendors
- Create inventory control KPI’s, tracking methods, and improvement plans
- Designing and maintaining department budgets
- Coordinate with the Global sourcing team regarding incoming raw materials
- Coordinate with customer vendors for order specific price tickets
- Coordinate with logistics for scheduled deliveries and dock appointment windows
- Monitor shipping windows and ensures orders are completed timely to avoid charges.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education and/or Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field is preferred
• 5+ year’s related experience (manufacturing, supply chain, inventory control).
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- 5+ years' experience in logistics role or related experience
- Ability to lead team members
- Customer service-oriented
- Excellent familiarity with supply chain processes and systems
- Skilled in inventory control processes, cycle counting, investigation, etc.
- Knowledgeable of forecasting and budgeting
- WMS detail level experience
- SAP and Kanban experience a plus
- Strong root cause problem solving skill
- Inventory process documentation and training experience
- Strong working knowledge of ERP systems
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Proven KPI tracking and improvement methodologies
