Position Summary

The primary role of the Medical Assistant in our family practice is to provide clinical support to healthcare providers, educate patients and their families, and collaborate effectively with the entire office team, all while adhering to Ohio Administrative Code.

Department Summary

Aultman Orrville Dunlap Family Physicians is a family practice that specializes in acute and chronic care for pediatrics and geriatrics, preventative care, and minor surgeries. Our practice has offices located in Apple Creek, Dalton, Doylestown, and Orrville with 9 physicians and 12 Advanced Practitioners. We are dedicated to providing compassionate, comprehensive care to our patients and community at every stage of life.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of approved Medical Assisting Program and current certification
  • Experience preferred but willing to train new graduates
  • Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support(BLS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required

Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Reviews patients’ medical records prior to visits to ensure completeness, confirm test results are available, and verify that quality measures and recommendations are being met.
  • Performs message/phone triage and has direct patient contact to ensure timeliness of return calls and relaying of messages to patients and/or designated HIPAA complaint party.
  • Checks physicians schedules frequently for any add-ons or updates.
  • Rooms patients in a timely manner making sure to identify patient and compare with chart. Obtains vital signs, height, weight, a current and accurate medication list, and all other pertinent information for the providers to assess the patient.
  • Refills prescriptions according to policy and protocol.
  • Assist with scheduling of urgent and non-urgent referrals and testing.
  • Accurately completes medical forms (example: disability forms, home health forms, etc.)
  • Assist with set up and performance of office procedures as directed
  • Documents properly and legally in patient’s chart
  • Accurately educates patients on all tests and medications ordered, in accordance with office policy and as directed by the provider
  • Returns phone calls to patients by the end of the business day.
  • Immediately informs the provider of abnormal results and notifies the patient on the same business day, following the providers instructions.
  • Takes ownership of restocking and cleaning exam rooms after use according to protocol.
  • Uses the EHR to accurately document and inform providers of patient interactions
  • Ability to work independently managing nurse schedule
  • Any other duties as assigned by Practice Manager and/or Clinical Lead

Working Conditions

  • Typically follows a 4-day work week, with 8-10 hour shifts.
  • Cross training in all areas in the department is required.
  • Staff may be assigned to different locations within the practice
  • Subject to frequent interruptions during performance of duties.
  • Expected to adhere to office polies and procedures.

Category I - Includes tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for spills or splashes of, or mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
