Position SummaryMystic Valley Regional Charter School is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Visual Arts Teacher to provide engaging instruction for students in Grades K–8.
The successful candidate will deliver a comprehensive visual arts curriculum aligned with the school's Core Knowledge program, fostering creativity, artistic skill development, and an appreciation for art history and visual expression. The teacher will create a structured, supportive classroom environment where students develop artistic techniques while building confidence, creativity, and critical thinking skills.
Essential Responsibilities- Plan and deliver engaging visual arts instruction aligned with the Core Knowledge curriculum.
- Develop lessons that introduce students to a variety of artistic techniques, media, styles, and art history.
- Demonstrate artistic processes and create instructional examples to support student learning.
- Guide students in developing artistic skills while encouraging creativity, craftsmanship, and self-expression.
- Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of grades, participation, and achievement.
- Prepare progress reports and report cards as required.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and well-equipped art classroom while ensuring the proper care and use of materials and equipment.
- Collaborate regularly with colleagues and administrators to support student achievement and interdisciplinary learning.
- Implement the school's assertive discipline model and maintain a structured, respectful classroom environment.
- Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and other required school events.
- Perform additional responsibilities assigned by the Assistant Director or Leadership Team.
- Bachelor's degree in Art, Art Education, Visual Arts, or a closely related field required.
- Massachusetts Visual Arts licensure (or eligibility to obtain licensure).
- Strong knowledge of artistic techniques, media, art history, and age-appropriate instructional practices.
- Ability to inspire creativity while maintaining high academic and behavioral expectations.
- Excellent classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and school leadership.
- Ability to perform responsibilities in accordance with school policies and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Successful completion of applicable Massachusetts MTEL requirements within one year of employment.
This position reports to the Assistant Director and is an annual appointment subject to yearly evaluation.
