Associate Director of Preconstruction/ Estimator

Location: Jacksonville, FL

Gordon Highlander is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Associate Director of Preconstruction/ Estimator to join our growing Preconstruction team. This is an excellent opportunity for a construction professional with estimating or preconstruction experience who enjoys analyzing projects, solving complex challenges, and helping deliver successful commercial construction projects from concept through award.

As an Associate Director of Preconstruction/ Estimator, you'll play a key role in developing accurate cost estimates, supporting project planning, collaborating with clients and trade partners, and helping position projects for success before construction begins.

The Associate Director of Preconstruction/ Estimator honors the Gordon Highlander Client Centricity Culture and is a collaborative, cross-functional team player with a servant's heart. This leader is committed to delivering exceptional client experience while fostering teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement across all project stakeholders

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate conceptual and detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects
  • Review drawings, specifications, and project documents to determine project scope and pricing requirements
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and develop detailed cost analyses
  • Assist with project scheduling and preconstruction planning as required
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with trade partners, architects, engineers, and consultants
  • Visit project sites to gather information and better understand project conditions
  • Participate in value engineering exercises and identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Project Management, and Business Development teams throughout the preconstruction process
  • Support proposal preparation, bid submissions, and client presentations when required
  • Maintain accurate estimating records and contribute to continuous process improvement

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in commercial construction estimating or preconstruction
  • Experience estimating both ground-up commercial projects
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam, Procore, On-Screen Takeoff, BuildingConnected, or similar estimating platforms
  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction methods, materials, and building systems
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and estimating software
  • Ability to build strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams
  • Experience supporting negotiated, design-build, and competitive bid projects
  • Understanding of scheduling software and project planning principles
