Job Description

Volunteer Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for identifying, recruiting, and retaining volunteers to support the organization's mission. This position reports to the Executive Director of HR and works closely with other staff members to ensure that volunteers are placed in positions that match their skills and interests and that they receive adequate support and training. The Coordinator is also responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships with other organizations and community groups that share the organization's goals and values. on joint initiatives. This is an in-office position with consideration for occasional remote work.

PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Develop and implement a volunteer recruitment and retention strategy
  • Create volunteer role descriptions.
  • Conduct interviews, background checks, and training for volunteers
  • Assign volunteers to appropriate roles based on their skills and interests
  • Conduct interest meetings
  • Maintains volunteer database for tracking hours served and calendars for their service area.
  • Conducts rounding with volunteers to discuss the needs of the customers, the department or program and the volunteers themselves (AIDET, phone etiquette, escorting patients, etc.).
  • Supervises and evaluates the performance of volunteers.
  • Counsels individual volunteers as needed and/or assists department manager/supervisors with counseling of the volunteer and staff in the event of problems or concerns.
  • Manages volunteer recognition program.
  • Maintains or improves policy, procedure and manuals/handbooks for activities performed in the volunteer services area.
  • Ensures completion and organization of required federal, state and other health care regulatory requirements and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with other organizations and community groups.
  • Develop and maintain records of volunteer activities
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure that volunteers are adequately supported and trained.
  • Attend events and meetings to represent the organization and build relationships with partners and stakeholders.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on volunteer and activities for the organization's leadership team.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS

Education

High School Graduate or GED.

Training and Experience

2 or more years’ experience in a field such as social work, counseling, education, psychology, or equivalent experience.

Qualifications

Interest in innovative, creative, and specialized programs
Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Prior experience in volunteer management, community outreach, or partnership development is highly desirable.
Strong writing and presenting skills.
Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and problem-solving skills
Detail-oriented and organized,
Ability to respond flexibly to a fluid and evolving program environment.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

May require a valid Washington State Driver’s License
