Job Description

Job Summary:

Under direct supervision of the Radiation Oncology Manager, supervises the radiation therapy staff. Coordinate all patient treatment activities within assigned areas. Assign work schedules for staff radiation therapy personnel. Assure that all patient treatments are performed in accordance with established protocols and procedures. Ensures the correct patient is being treated in accordance to hospital protocol of checking at least two patient identifiers prior to completing treatment. Reviews patient documents for completeness. Reviews patient CT and portal images for technical quality prior to review by radiation oncologists, physicists, and dosimetrists planning. Ensure that all procedures have been charged correctly. Performs patient therapy treatments , simulations, and CT exams as required in accordance with established protocols, assists the physicians in patient treatments, maintains patient records as required, assures that the patient's clinical history is complete, completes associated paperwork, performs QA/QC equipment tests, performs simulator procedures when required, maintains and adheres to accepted sterile techniques and provides clean environment within examination area, shares emergency call as required. Perform QA/QC on equipment, as needed and supervise all ACR and/or any governing agency standards required for assigned areas. Arrange for corrective and preventive maintenance on equipment as required. Provides input for monthly reports, as needed. Ensure that quality assurance procedures for equipment are performed and documented. Provide resource assistance for personnel within the area. Provide student radiation therapists with the basic procedural concepts within responsible areas. Function as a liaison between the physicians, physicists, dosimetrists, and radiation therapists. Shares call responsibility for emergency examinations, as needed. Demonstrates appropriate computer skills. Also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Demonstrates knowledge and skill to appropriately communicate and interact with patients, families, visitors, and vendors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Knowledgeable of Radiation Safety ALARA principles and practice. Participates in Radiation Oncology leadership meetings. Works actively with Radiation Oncology Manager, Radiation Oncologists, Physicists, and Office Manager is operations and patient care.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills

Graduate of an approved AMA school of radiation therapy technology.

Work Experience:

3-5 years experience as a radiation therapist required. Previous leadership experience preferred.

Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist for State of MS

MS State Department of Health Medical Radiation Technologist

Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on required timeframe below

  • Basic Life Support
