Job Description

Position Summary

The Superintendent leads daily field operations for federal construction projects, coordinating subcontractors, quality control, safety, schedule, and site logistics to deliver work in compliance with contract requirements. The successful candidate brings strong leadership, communicates effectively with government and project stakeholders, and represents Sauer professionally.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Plan and oversee site mobilization, temporary facilities, manpower, labor relations, and construction logistics.
  • Support project estimating, schedule development, and preparation of subcontractor scopes of work.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and the site team to maintain safe, efficient, and schedule-driven operations.
  • Develop daily work plans and detailed schedules, resolving conflicts among the client, Sauer, and subcontractors.
  • Supervise field activities and review manpower requests for craft labor.
  • Participate in construction planning and recommend practical solutions to field issues.
  • Communicate professionally with government representatives, clients, subcontractors, and project team members.
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of Quality Control Manager experience on federal construction projects.
  • Substantial superintendent experience on Department of Defense projects.
  • Working knowledge of Department of Defense and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers procedures and protocols.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
  • Proficiency with Primavera scheduling software and Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong leadership, communication, scheduling, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Lean construction experience are preferred.
Physical Requirements

This position requires prolonged standing and walking, as well as stooping, bending, climbing ladders, scaffolding, and stairs, and operating trucks or construction equipment. The employee must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry objects frequently and work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, wind, and rain. Comprehensive knowledge of construction processes and industry practices, along with proven leadership and supervisory capability, is required.

Coordinate preparatory, initial, and follow-up control phases; review submittals and testing requirements; maintain quality documentation; identify deficiencies; and verify that corrective actions are completed before work proceeds.
