MAINTENANCEREPAIRER
DEPARTMENT: Mercer County Correction Center –Maintenance
SALARY: $44,447 - $59,658
LOCATION: Lambertville, NJ
SCHEDULE: During the training period, theschedule is 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Upon successful completion of training,employees will be assigned to one of the following shifts based on operationalneeds:
- 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM
- 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM

POSITIONOVERVIEW:
The MercerCounty Correction Center is seeking dependable and skilled MaintenanceRepairers to join the facility's Maintenance team. This position isresponsible for performing a wide variety of routine maintenance, repair, andpreventive maintenance tasks to ensure the safe, secure, and efficientoperation of the Correction Center and its systems.
Workingwithin a secure correctional environment, Maintenance Repairers perform generalbuilding maintenance involving carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting,masonry, mechanical systems, and other skilled trades. This position plays avital role in maintaining facility infrastructure while supporting dailyoperations and ensuring compliance with safety and security standards.
ESSENTIALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilitiesinclude, but are not limited to:
- Perform routine maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance on facility buildings, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Complete general repairs involving carpentry, painting, masonry, plumbing, electrical, glazing, sheet metal, and mechanical systems.
- Repair and patch concrete, brick, plaster, walls, ceilings, floors, and other building components.
- Perform interior and exterior painting, surface preparation, and finishing work.
- Repair plumbing fixtures, piping, leaks, drains, valves, and related systems.
- Perform basic electrical repairs, including replacing light fixtures, bulbs, switches, outlets, fuses, and related components.
- Assist with maintenance and repair of roofing, gutters, drain systems, doors, windows, locks, and hardware.
- Perform minor maintenance on facility equipment, machinery, and County vehicles as assigned.
- Maintain, inspect, clean, and properly store tools, equipment, and work areas.
- Assist with facility inspections and identify maintenance or safety concerns requiring corrective action.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and maintenance activities.
- Utilize electronic work order and maintenance management systems as required.
- Follow all applicable safety procedures, security protocols, and departmental policies while working within the correctional facility.
- Respond to maintenance emergencies and assist with facility operations as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE:
Highschool diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experienceperforming general building maintenance, construction, facility maintenance, orwork in one or more skilled trades is preferred.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Possession of a valid New Jersey driver's license may be required depending on operational needs.
- Appointees may be required to obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements based on assigned duties.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including lifting, climbing, bending, standing for extended periods, and working in varying indoor and outdoor conditions.
KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in general building maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices associated with maintenance and construction activities.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance and repair work across multiple building trades.
- Ability to diagnose maintenance issues and determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, equipment, and machinery.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records and utilize computerized maintenance management systems.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with supervisors, correctional staff, contractors, and other County employees.
- Ability to work independently and respond effectively to routine and emergency maintenance situations.
