This is a senior backend engineering role focused on building reliable systems for large organizations operating complex production environments.
You’ll design and ship backend capabilities that improve scalability, upgrade safety, and operational reliability across enterprise deployments.
The role involves solving challenging technical problems spanning databases, concurrency, distributed systems, and production operations.
You’ll work within a highly collaborative, cross-functional engineering team alongside backend, platform, and QA specialists.
Your work will directly influence how confidently operators deploy, manage, upgrade, and troubleshoot enterprise infrastructure.
You’ll have substantial ownership, from technical design and implementation through production rollout, documentation, and ongoing operations.
- Design and develop backend features end to end, taking ownership from technical design through implementation, testing, and production rollout.
- Architect and implement backend changes that support long-term scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Investigate production-like workloads to identify and resolve scalability bottlenecks, including database access patterns, concurrency issues, and service performance.
- Improve database migration and upgrade safety through schema compatibility, background migration strategies, and reliable rollback mechanisms.
- Own and resolve backend issues reported by operators and administrators, driving complex technical problems through to resolution.
- Document system designs, implementation decisions, operational considerations, and relevant technical tradeoffs.
- Participate actively in code reviews and RFC-style technical design discussions, contributing to engineering standards and architectural decisions.
- Participate in on-call rotations and take operational ownership of the services and systems you maintain.
- Collaborate across engineering and product functions to deliver solutions that balance technical quality, user needs, reliability, and long-term scalability.
- Contribute to infrastructure and distributed-systems initiatives where relevant, continuously improving the reliability of enterprise software.
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial hands-on production experience with Go.
- Deep knowledge of Go's concurrency model, including goroutines, channels, the sync package, and techniques for diagnosing race conditions under real-world workloads.
- Strong experience designing and operating relational databases in production, including schema design, migrations, transactions, and performance considerations.
- Strong understanding of backend architecture, production systems, and software reliability principles.
- Exceptional debugging and troubleshooting abilities, with persistence and analytical thinking when addressing complex technical problems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions and collaborate effectively with engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
- Self-motivated and comfortable taking ownership of ambiguous or technically challenging problems.
- Experience working with cloud-native technologies and modern development practices is highly valuable.
- Experience with infrastructure engineering is a plus.
- Experience building or operating distributed systems at meaningful scale is a plus.
- Familiarity with developer tooling and an interest in emerging technologies are advantageous.
- Experience with technologies such as PostgreSQL, GCP, Kubernetes, gRPC, Prometheus, Grafana, and GitHub Actions is beneficial.
- Competitive compensation: U.S. salary ranges of $151,000–$257,000 depending on tier and location, plus equity and bonus opportunities.
- International compensation: Equivalent compensation structures are available in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Poland.
- Equity: Opportunity to participate in equity compensation.
- Bonus: Eligibility for performance-based bonus compensation.
- Remote flexibility: Fully remote work environment.
- Technical ownership: Opportunity to own complex backend systems and influence architecture, scalability, and enterprise reliability.
- Career growth: Senior-level scope with exposure to challenging distributed systems, infrastructure, cloud technologies, and enterprise software.
- Collaborative environment: Work alongside backend, platform, QA, engineering, and product professionals.
- Modern technology stack: Go, PostgreSQL, GCP, Kubernetes, gRPC, Prometheus, Grafana, and GitHub Actions.
- AI-native environment: Opportunity to work in an organization building infrastructure for modern AI-assisted and autonomous development workflows.
