Job Description

FWS - Lab Assistant (Student Worker)

Location: Post University Main Campus, MacDermid Hall
Supervisor: Laura Bailey, Associate Program Chair of Life and Physical Sciences & Lab Manager
Hours: Approximately 10 - 20 hours per week
Pay: Minimum Wage
Duration: Academic Year 2026-2027 (year-round opportunity)

This position requires 10-20 hours per week as well as approval from Financial Aid for Federal Work-Study.

About the Role

As a Lab Assistant, you'll help support the daily operations of the Life and Physical Sciences Department (LPSD). This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience working in a laboratory environment while supporting faculty, instructors, and fellow students.

Qualifications

  • Students must have completed at least one high school lab course plus be currently enrolled in a college lab course; ideally, the student shall have completed at least one college lab course
  • Students must be responsible and able to focus on the task at hand
  • Students must be comfortable working with laboratory glassware and general lab equipment
  • Ideally, the student should be a biology major or minor

Responsibilities

  • The Lab Assistant Student Worker provides administrative and clerical support to the associates of the Life & Physical Science and Biology Programs at Post University
  • The primary responsibility of the Lab Assistant is to assist with the daily operations of the Post University science labs which include, but is not limited to:
  • Assist Faculty in the setup and preparation of materials for biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science labs both in the laboratories and field
  • Clean up the laboratory, laboratory equipment, and glassware
  • Other duties may be assigned
  • This position will allow a student to work behind the scenes and better understand laboratory setup, equipment setup, equipment uses, and proper laboratory etiquette and procedures
